Even when all three are on, the living room is still not as bright as I'd like it at night. I wish my place had ceiling lights. The shades are a teal color if that makes a difference.

Lamps from the ceiling can be added. You can use hooks into your ceiling and hang them. The power cords would run down the wall to the outlets. to disguise the cords, paint them your wall color.

I have floor lamp that has a large 3 way pointed up with 3 additional bulbs in a normal configuration. There are two seperate switches and the 3 smaller lamps can be turned on 1 or 2 or 3. There is a master switch built into the post. Hold the post and pull down and the lamp turns on and off.

You might consider using CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lamps) The initial lamp cost will be more but they are more efficient and last much longer than incandescent lamps which is only about 750 hours for the 100 watt. I am assuming you are now using incandescent. I think the average lumen output of a 100 watt is about 1,750 lumen's. You could go to a 42 watt CLF which would have a lumen output of about 2, 650. Close to the output of a 150 watt incandescent. If you think you might want to go that route you might need to check and make sure that the larger CFL lamp will fit in your lamps. ...Good Luck...

I think halogen lights are brighter. Here's a link about the difference but all it says is that halogen light is a "white" light compared with regular incandescent bulbs.

Or you can try this link which explains technical defferences of many different types of lightbulbs. Maybe fluorescent lights?
