Everyone I've met has been believing in a higher power of some sort. I don't think I've ever met someone who hasn't wondered about it at one time or other. Those who I've met who claimed to be atheist were at one time or other believers. At different times of our lives and at different stages we are all one thing or other. I prefer to think of myself as a dog more than anything. Presently, I follow the religion of dogs. Their hallelujah chorus is spine-tingling.

Yes. I also know a few 7 foot midgets and a couple of 600 pound anorexics.
Pssst - If he doesn't believe it, he is NOT a Christian. Being Catholic is not a cultural thing. It is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and living as though you accept Him.

Well, I do think that there are many people out there who claim that they are Christians, and don't believe even in the electricity LOL.
They go to their churches, but for appearances only. Maybe this can be the influence of many things, like friends, family, or external influences like the media, radio, TV, movies, etc. Probably he doesn't even know his religion at all, as many Christians out there.

I thought this was going to be an oxymoron incapable of an intelligent answer, but yes, there are many.
I would say that most people who wear a cross around their neck do it not as a display of their christian status, but more so as a decorative display of vanity. Example: Look at all those rappers that wear those enormous gold crosses while rapping about drugs, murder, and what have you.

I wasn't ware that any Christian religion had a "culture"...seems like just organized religion to me.
If he's atheist, he's probably more like my immediate family... we are not believers, but most family past and present that are have generally been Presbyterian... Though we don't consider ourselves that. So, like me, he's a "supposed to be __insert religion here__" if he was religious. Other in his family are Catholic, he is not.

No. You're friend is not an "atheistic Christian".
Words MEAN things. The word CHRISTIAN carries a certain meaning; part of which, is a belief in the God of the Bible.
He is, according to you, an atheist; and therefore CANNOT take the name "Christian".

Then your friend is not a christian! Jesus even said if one is luke warm he would spit them out.
I know many Roman Catholics who don't believe the bible much at all. Not sure why they go to church....Or claim Christianity at all.
Strange.
It's like saying I am a little pregnant.

I doubt that it's possible to be an atheistic Christian... the two terms are mutually exclusive. To be a Christian, you HAVE to believe in God. That's the big one.
I've seen Jewish atheists, though. David Cross is an example.

The term Christian refers to someone who believes in Christ and accepts Him as Savior. So, if your friend doesn't truly believe, he's not a Christian.

He's not a real Catholic then. They come up with new names for "religions" every day.
