This war ( and any war ) is brutal. In other wars that we have been involved in, most soldiers were only there for one tour of duty. To go there for the first time, you don't really know what it will be like, but on the second and third time --you know what it is like.

This war has not been going well --the military people know this. They are frustrated and tired.

Erudite, how many times have you been to Iraq? How many deployments have you been on? And where is your source for the so-called 'crying' that is going on?

And when were you selected to voice the unanimous opinion of every servicemember, FRAGINAL?
The opinions on the war are as varied in the ranks are they are among the civilians. Some sevicemembers feel it is a bad idea to be there, others think it's necessary and just. But the vast majority of them follow their orders and fulfill their duties and promises, even when it's not convenient and easy.

While I'm against the draft, if it does come to pass, I hope you two are 1-A, and get a taste of reality.

You have never been over there and that is made obvious. And until you go over there wondering if sitting down to a meal you will be bombed then shut the hell up. For god sake soilders write their blood type on their boots just in case something happens. You not only insulted the soilder but his or her family as well.

I haven't heard anyone I know cry. But could it be that they actually like to be home for more then 10 mths at a time, watch their children grow, not live in a combat zone for a year or more, etc.?

You should have been watching CNN earlier when they interviewed the soldiers. They said "we need to finish the job in Iraq! They ignore the people back home, they just blow it off. They have no clue what we are doing here!" On CNN mind you!

Have you ever been there? I can tell that you haven't. Try being away from your loved ones for a year. Then hearing mortars, small arms fire, and hellicopters flying every day and night for 365 days non stop.
