I am supposed to do a speech for speech class tomorrow. I have no idea how to do a good basic speech and I am also very shy to do this. What can I do to overcome my shyness? Even with preparation, I still shake, lose my voice, and turn red while I speak. I am trying my best to me this first speech a great one. The speech topic is about yourself / family / pet / sports / vacation / etc - I am just not sure what I should really talk about (2-3 min long :() and how to start one / end one in a unique way. Help and give me suggestions so I can feel more confident for tomorrow's speech. 10 pts and thanks :)

Hi, to begin with it is very important to remember that your audience is not expecting perfection. So there is no need for you to be so tensed or scared. The people in the audience will be as nervous as you are when they have to address a crowd. So they will understand what you are going through. Dont worry about how long or short your speech is going to be, becuase it not what the people listening to you are looking for. So just keep your contents ready. Structure your speech. Once you have all the points in place, you will start speaking automatically! Make a cheat sheet, so that even if you forget someting, a quick glance at it will bring you back on track or you can have cue cads, but dont forget to number the cards.Do not read it out from a script.
You can start by greeting you audience and the tell them about yourself and continue by telling the audience what you are going to tell them, then explain to them about your subject and then at the end tell them what you told them. This will give a nice flow to your speech. Once you finish, ask your audience if they have any question. This will make the session more interactive.
'Follow the rule of Three' which says people tend to remember lists of three things. Like 'A,B.C', or 1,2,3'. So sturture your speech around gruops of three points each and not more tha three groups. It will be easier for your adudience to absorb what you are saying and you will be an instant hit!
Also dress comfaoratbly. It is very important that you dress appropriately and comfatably while addressing a crowd as people tend to judge you in the first 10 secs. Also because, if you are not comfortable with whatt you are wearing, it will distract your attention and you might end up blanking out on stage.
Remember to maintain an eye contact with your audience. This will definitely make you feel better and easier for your audience to accpet you.
Fianlly...enjoy yourself on Stage! Relax and you definitely do a great job! All the best!

Start with a little story from your life. Nothing complicated. The end result should be to show some aspect of your personality. For example: "When I was four years old my parents caught me eating dog food. They said I had the most disgusted look on my face. I guess that's why I'm a vegetarian today." At this point the speaker would talk some more about why he/she is a vegetarian.
The point is, you only have a couple minutes so you need to focus on one aspect of your personality. The addition of stories keeps people interested. No one wants to listen to your opinions of yourself but they can't help listening to a story. The hardest part is thinking of stories to tell. Try not to imagine that the purpose of this exercise is to give a speech, rather, think about the kinds of things you would tell people that you already know. What might you tell your grandparents or your cousin the next time you see them? What stories do your parents like to tell about you or what stories about yourself have your friends responded to. These do not have to be epic events, they could be minor things that happened just last week. What is important is that they demonstrate the attribute your speech is about.

I had to give a speech like this in college and told it like a fairy tale from the third person. "Once upon a time there was a girl...." This helped me out a lot since it allowed me to not really talk about myself to strangers which I don't like doing. And at the end I got to finish up by saying "And I read to many books and think life is a fairy tale"
Being that shyness is a problem you can't really get rid of the only suggestion I have is to pretend you aren't shy. Sometimes pretending is enough to make you realize you aren't so shy and can stand up and talk to a crowd.
2-3 minutes is not that long. You should pick a subject you like a lot (for example I like horses so I'd rather give a speech about them & since it is supposed to be personal talk about your personal involvement with the subject)

Start with "hello".
Now let's make a speech. Pick a subject you know very well.
Introduce it with an open ended question. "How many of you have ever heard of (subject)? Very good."
Pick someone who has raised their hand and ask them to share their experience or knowledge. Listen to them. Now you have a reason not to be afraid as someone else is also interested in the topic. Continue to speak on the subject while asking questions. Let the audience answer the questions and "reward" them with statements such as "very good", "interesting." Before you know it, instead of just speaking to a room full of people, you will be having a conversation in which you control its direction and the final outcome. The speech will be over before you know it and you'll get an outstanding grade.

In school students have very similar lives, all students want to finish their homework, get straight A's, avoid detention, ect, however outside of school everyone has their own unique family life.
hope it helps a bit
