Please, does anyone know why a cat would be throwing up foam/water alot?

Your cat may be suffering from CRF (Feline Chronic Renal Failure). Vomiting clear foam is a classic symptom.

However, there are many other reasons why your cat may be vomiting. There are too many unanswered questions, here.

Is the cat eating? Is he lethargic? Is it possible he could have something, like a cat toy or possibly some Christmas garland/icicle stuck in his throat? How long has this been going on? How often is 'alot'? How old is the cat?

Any excessive vomiting is not normal, therefore, you should definitely get the cat to the vet. If you have help and think you can do it, have a look down your cat's throat with a pen light and see if you can see any visible blockage.

Without any indication of how your cat seems to be 'feeling', I can't offer anything further, but PLEASE! If you care about your animal and this is happening very frequently, have him checked out. Delaying a visit to the vet could well cost him his life.

Most likely cause is a fur ball that the cat cannot pass or barf out. There are foods and medicines that can help with this problem.

The cat may be trying to vomit out the fur ball and can't get the job done.

However, there could be a variety of causes for this problem. Many diseases in cats can cause this symptom. So, better get him to a qualified veterinarian. If I were you I would not delay because cats can go very fast. Some of the diseases can spread to humans.

Basically, if you care about your cat get him to a vet!!!

Once you're at the vet's office you might want to talk about the fur ball.

MANY great answers here. You left out far too much information. How old is the cat? Inside or outside cat? Recent illnesses? Food change? There are a million questions but the one right answer is TAKE THE CAT TO A VET.

Depending on age, breed, etc., it could even be cardiomyopathy. Cats with heart inflamation will vomit frequently and it's white foamy liquid. Persians are very susceptible to heart problems. It's nothing to fool around with.

She could be having the dry heaves, my cat did, and has been throwing up her food for years, the vets can't find anything wrong with her. Its gotten better though since we changed her food to a senesitve formula. My cat did the dry heaves over the summer she's fine now but I would take her to the vet if you can afford to.

No one here will be able to tell you the exact reasons since it could be anything like poisons your cat could've accidentally swallowed, disease, something. You need to get your cat to the vet quickly because cats can dehyrdate quickly and die if they don't get help. I am not sure if this is related or not but my cat threw up a "foam" substance the same day that she received her yearly shots.

By all means, take your cat to the Vet. My cat was doing this and he ended up having kidney disease, which is totally manageable in most cases! But let your kitty see a vet soon please.
