I'm a Christian, a network engineer, and a former teacher. I work with some Christians, 3 aggressive mormons, 1 waffling JW and a homosexual pagan in a committed relationship with 2 other men.

If the point can't be argued, the person is attacked. Name-calling reflects poorly on the one making the attack, and also weakens your position. Let 'em do the best that they can, ya know!

Wondering that myself. A very good friend of mine who leads the Cincinnati Chapter of Carmelites, is also a Xavier University Professor in science and Religion and also has a PHD.
A very well educated and extremely Holy Man. A spiritual guide for me and many others. He wrote 2 books and working on another.

My father is a minister. I've never heard anyone say he wasn't educated. If anything he was over educated. I had a school teacher with 5 masters and he was an ordained minister too. I don't think people make that comment.

Because the most vocal Christian representatives in the national media are stunningly ignorant--and proud of the fact. Pat Robertson comes to mind. Jerry Falwell. Peter Popoff (yes, that's a real name!). Jimmy Swaggart. Tim LaHaye. Jon Dobson. Billy Graham. Ted Haggard.

Unless other, moderate or liberal, Christians stand up to these people--publicly--they will continue to be the modern face of Christianity. Sad but true.

The world does not know God, nor can they. Be certain however, that one day, good and evil alike, smart and uneducated, rich and poor, servant and master, one day, "Every knee shall bow and confess Jesus Christ as Lord, to the glory of the Father"
Satan uses many schemes to deceive this unbelieving world.
Attitude towards Christians and God in general is just one of his ways to deceive.

Not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called,
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise, and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty,
And base things of the world and things which are despised hath God chosen, yea and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are,

that no flesh should glory in His presence, 1 Corinthians 1.

Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world ? And is not the foolishness of God wiser than men ?

At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee O Father, Lord of heaven and earth because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent and hast revealed them unto babes, Matthew 11/25

Jesus Christ Himself was uneducated. Matthew 13/54-55, Whence has this man this wisdom, and these mighty works? And Mark 6/3.

So also His Apostles - Acts 4/13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled and they took knowledge of them that they had been with Jesus.

Has God not chosen the poor of this world rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him ? James 2/5

Blessed are the poor in spirit !

Johann Kepler was a Christian. Enough said.
The reason many people say such things is that it saves the effort of thought

Because Christians run their whole lives based on a Fairy Tale. They are too ignorant to question that Fairy Tale or they would realize what a dangerously stupid waste of brain cells religion is. The idea of faith without proof means, that the person in question is out of touch with reality.

examples: Christian Pharmacists who won't dispense birth control, President Bush's "Crusade" in Iraq, The Reverend Jerry Falwell.

Reality does not include Mythical creatures who insists that we hate and kill anyone who doesn't agree with us.
