The Bible says, "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us" (Titus 3:5).
.
The Bibles says, "... The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23).
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: It is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast" (Ephesians 2:8,9).
There is not one thing you can do to earn Heaven. It is free! You can do nothing to earn eternal life.

The Bible says, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).
We all fall short of God's perfect standard.
"For the wages of sin is death..." (Romans 6:23).

The Bible says, "Christ died for our sins... and that He rose again on the third day..." (I Corinthians 15:3,4).
"But God commendeth His Love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).
"For He (God) hath made Him (Christ) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him" (II Corinthians 5:21).
"But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly his faith is counted for righteousness" (Romans 4:5).

The Bible says, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved" (Acts 16:31).
"For God so loved the world (you),
that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whosoever BELIEVETH IN HIM (Jesus Christ)
should not perish, but have
everlasting life"
(John 3:16).

"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life..." (1 John 5:13).
"Verily, verily. I say unto you, He that believeth on Me hath everlasting life" (John 6:47).

The Bible says, "And I give unto them eternal life and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand" (John 10:28).

"But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name" (John 1:12).

Doesn't it make sense to believe on the One who came back from the dead and trust Him for the payment of your sins?
You may want to use this prayer to express your decision to trust in Christ:
"Dear Lord, I know I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. Today, the best I know how, I trust you as my Savior. I believe you died for me and arose from the dead. Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Amen."

Confess your sins to the Lord in prayer. Get specific if you feel like you need to. Repent (meaning to ask the Lord to forgive you for something and then not doing that thing again). Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that you believe that Jesus is the son of God and that he died on the cross that you might have everlasting life. And ask Him into your heart. Ask Him to reveal His ways to you so that you can live for Him. If you are sincere in your prayer meaning what you said, then the Lord will hear you and he will through those sins in the sea of forgetfulness to remember them no more. People will constantly try to bring that stuff up, but don't let that bother you. Tell them that God forgave you and that's all that matters about that. End of discussion. God bless you and I hope this answered your question.

I do not think that God is a God that needs to tell what we need to do in order to enter a relationship with him. I say this for several reasons:

1. If the Holy Spirit is working on your heart (that is you are yearning for a closer walk with Jesus) you will feel motivated to read your Bible and pray more often. But first you must have accepted Jesus into your heart as your personal Lord and Savior; once you have done this, the Holy Spirit (God & Jesus) will speak to your heart - and if you take time to listen in your quiet moments you will know that fellowshipping with him by reading your Bible and in prayer will bring you into a closer walk with him.

Once you are a true born-again Christian (accept Jesus into your heart, not intellectually) your relationship with him will never change. Your fellowship with him can change by what you do or don't do. Very much like having your own child. Your relationship to your child can never change, but if this child or teenager or older, can break fellowship with you by doing things that offend you; and until he or she confess up (apologies to you) will feel himself distant from you.

It is important to know that believing in God doesn't make you a Born-again Christian. In the book of Jude in the New Testament it says ....even the demons believe in God and tremble. It is believing John 3:16 that makes the whole difference. Then reading Romans 3:23 and 3:38 and 1 John 1:9.

It is very important to know that we can not earn our way to God (heaven) by what WE DO. It is by the grace of God in sending his son, Jesus to die for us that washes away all our sins. Salvation is free paid for by the blood of Jesus. Once a person accepts this the Holy Spirit enters into an eternal relationship with you in your heart.

I personally believe that there are no set rules/regs in order to hold a relationship with God. Just call upon God is all that is required of the individual.

Everyone HAS a relationship with God, even if they don't belive in Him.
Unbelievers have a Judge/Criminal relationship with God. God will judge them for their sins.
Believers have a Parent/Child relationship with God. Believers are not judged for their sin, as far as condemnation, but rather experience temporal consequences for their sin.

In order to have a parent/child relationship with God you must:
1 Admit your sin
2 Repent of your sin
3 Believe that Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, died to take the penalty for YOUR sin, was burried, and rose from the dead.
4 By faith, receive God's mercy and forgivenes.

Death is inevitable. The thief on the cross knew when his would occur, but we can not predict our own. After his death, the crucified criminal went to live in paradise with Jesus. Some of us will also live eternally in God's presence. But others will experience everlasting torment, forever separated from Him.
If we receive Jesus as our Savior, our penalty for sin is paid. We are adopted into God's family, and Heaven is our eternal home. If we reject Jesus, we remain alienated from the Lord and under condemnation for our sin. We are destined to experience eternal judgment. God won't accept any of man's excuses because there is no acceptable defense for unbelief. (Acts 4:12)
Become part of God's family today. Acknowledge your sinfulness, and express your faith in these words:
"God, I have sinned against You. (Romans 3:23) I've followed my own way and refused to give You the right to rule in my life. (Romans 3:10-12) I recognize I am separated from You and cannot rescue myself. I do believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son. I accept the truth of the Scriptures? that His death on the cross paid my sin-debt in full. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) And I ask You to forgive me of my sins. (1 John 1:9) By faith, I receive You, Lord Jesus, as my personal Savior from this moment on."
If you just spoke those words to God, then, like the thief on the cross, you have received salvation? a gift of God's grace. The heavenly Father welcomes every person who comes to Him through His Son, regardless of background, age, or current situation. Through Jesus, the right to enter paradise is yours!

Accept Jesus as you savior, make an effort to grow claser to him. The "faster" you get closer to God doesnt mean you have a relationship.

Romans 10 (NIV)
9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

The one binding concept of all religions is that you should be kind, compassionate and loving toward (and be able to forgive) yourself, those surrounding you, those you "hate" and even the "least of those among you."

In these religions, God already has a relationship with you and all others; s/he/it is just waiting for you to show your love to God by showing it to all God's creations.

Yes, yes, yes. He tells us in the Bible, straight and clear! He lays it out for us, and he is very specific. If you have trouble understanding the Bible, make sure you buy an NIV version as it is very well translated. Have you ever had a book that will answer any question you have? The Bible has it all.
