go through all the emotions like anger, sadness , despair etc when confronted with mans ignorance, lack of empathy and sheer cruelty to innocent animals ? I watched a few shows on Animal Planet tonight and I am flabbergasted by what I saw. It beggars belief that there are people who dont realise that animals are sentient beings.Is it lack of education?I would appreciate genuine opinions

It saddens me truly to see the kind of violence and cruelty you mention. Yes, just about every animal brain bigger than a lobster's is sentient, although not in _exactly_ the same way humans are. They deserve to be treated with dignity, even if we intend to eventually eat them as food.
Think about reading a book called The Omnivore's Dilemma. You'll appreciate it's candor and insight.

It's all about ratings. Sadly there are people who enjoy watching that stuff. I can't anymore. It's so disrespectful to the animals. Those guys are invading their homes/habitats just to make a few bucks. It's wrong.
Steve Irwin did it and paid the ultimate price. I think others should sit up and take notice. It's like they think they're invincible or something.

I do. I can't watch those shows anymore. I did animal rescues & fostering for years so I've seen first hand what people do to animals (& each other).

animals act in the worst way, too -- check out a lion that kills the cubs of the previous male in order to make sure it gets its lineage going...

animal planet has totally changed my thoughts regarding animals...
not that i didnt respect them before
but i see them in a whole knew light now
amazing show
anyone who says they lack intelligence obviously hasnt seen this

Yes animal abuse is awful.
But it bothers me more when it is done to children.
