The term "pig" originated during the 60's. A surge of anti-war Vietnam protests amoungst the younger generation were prevelant. The police often attempted to use tear gas to disperse rioters. Of course the police used gas masks, for their protection, that looked like the pigs snout! Ergo....the term "Pig." The law enforcement officers obviously used the same term to counter the less attractive term with "Pride..Integrity...Guts!" The term "COPS" generated by the English is "Constable on Patrol." By the way....I do believe you meant to ask "Why are COPS called PIGS?"

They started calling the cops "pigs" in the 60's...I'm surprised that the nickname has stuck all these years really.

If I had pet pig, I'd probably name him "Deputy". I think it would be cute. Pigs are adorable. I think my husband would get a kick out of it. :o)
