i want a parakeet but my step dad says it cant be noisy. are they really noisy??

Usually one by its self isn't so bad, but when excited or there are loud sounds the parakeet will sound off.

If hes with other birds or sees other birds, he'll be more inclinded to communicate with them and might get a bit noisy then too.

Most birds are a bit noisy.


I have 6 parakeets, and I've learned to tune out their mind boogling chatter... you get used to it.

I have 5 parakeets and have kept them for 15 years now and they can be noisy as a group at times. Mine chirp a lot in the morning but just cover their cage with a blanket or towel and they are quiet. Mine are never noisy at night either.

All birds have potential to be noisy,. However, the more time you spend talking to them and playing with them the less likely they are the "scream" and just make noise for the fun of it. Also, you can quell the noise by placing a dark cloth over the cage. They think it is night time and they roost.

They can be noisy. My 4 parakeets might kind of scream at eachother sometimes, but they also chirp.

Parakeets do tend to chirp a lot so in that sense after hearing a couple of chirps, they can be noisy with them...if not annyoing to those that aren't into parakeets.

depends on the type of parakeet. the budgerigar is less noisy than the ringneck parakeet.

i have two parakeets they can get noisy but once you lay down the rules they shut up really fast if you scold them they kinda backsass me though.
