I have a really horrible fear of the inside of my elbow, you know that little spot, usually where blood is drawn. I don't have any fear of needles or blood, I can get my blood drawn from my hand no problem, so that's not the issue. I can't have my arms opened all the way because I can't have that area "unprotected". I can't touch it. If anyone around me even has their own arms open and their inside elbow is exposed I get super uncomfortable and usually ask them to close their arm. If I see someone touching the inside of their arm for more than like 1 second, I start to uncontrollably cry and I have no idea why I'm crying except for the fact that I'm so freaked out that I just saw someone touch their area. This phobia is just so irrational and I have no idea why I have it. Any ideas on how I gained a phobia like this, and any ideas on how to cure it?

Go to a clinical hypnosis to get rid of the problem. You're subconscious is acting funny and needs to be told how to behave properly. It doesn't matter how it happened- the rational mind doesn't care.

I don't think you should feel bad or ashamed that your phobia isn't a common one..the fact is that it is a phobia and it is causing you a lot of distress to the extent of having panic attacks. Your best bet might be to start with your doctor and explain just as you have here, how you feel and how this phobia is interfering with your quality of life. There are a lot of therapies like cognitive behaviour therapy that would be beneficial for you and help you to get through this phobia and not have this constant fear and worry. Don't be afraid to ask for help and I wonder would it worth trying your parents again..you've explained so clearly here...maybe you could write down what you've written here and show them. Please keep looking for support..you deserve it and with the right help, you'll be able to face this phobia and feel a lot calmer and happier

honestly the only thing that comes to mind is a friend who shot up for years. even after being sober for like 5 years she still could not stand for it to be touched or looked at. if you touched it like when you hoop your arms through someone elses it triggered anger like when you hit your toe on something. were you ever given an iv as a young child? maybe the nurse hurt you then and it is just now coming around. newaz there are all types of phobias you just have to talk it out . good luck

hmmm. i saw a show about curing phobias, and they just made the people comfront them... with baby steps. a woman who was terrified of fish, first just had to sit in the same room as a gold fish in a bowl, by the end of the show and i think a week later in real life, she could stand in a tank full of large fish. i'm not really sure what would be a starting point for you... maybe touching it while you have long sleeves on? whatever it is; try doing that for 5 minutes, and gradually work your way up to touching somebody elses bare spot (or whatever it is you think is the worst case scenario)

No idea how something like this could have began. Maybe you were somehow traumatized in your younger years... try to think back (I'm sure you already have, but if not then do so) to your child hood years and figure out ANYTHING that could have involved that part of your body and decide if it could cause this or not... counceling is probably the only means of curing a phobia like this.

Does it help if you wear long sleeved shirts? Maybe counseling would help. Or have you tried wrapping the area with an elastic bandage to protect it? Really, try not to worry so much, it will be okay.:)

I think you need expert advice on this problem. Phobias are always irrational but they are the manifestation of deeper problems.

this one really does call for some professional help, no offense, that sounds like too much for you to manage on your own, try starting with just a counselor first, they may help you learn some tools, for yourself, and how to turn your head when others do things like that, good luck
