If this bump is directly on the midline of the abdomen (where the belly-button would be), then it is most likely an umbilical hernia. These are frequently caused by the queen getting a little too close to the abdomen while chewing off the umbilical cord. They are usually nothing to worry about and can be repaired quite easily at the time of neutering.

Only your veterinarian can tell you definitively what the bump is. Any new pet should be taken to the veterinarian within a few days of being adopted for a general health check. At this appointment, your kitten will be checked for parasites, both internal and external, tested for infectious diseases such as feline leukemia and FIV, dewormed and vaccinated, if appropriate. Your doctor will give your kitten a thorough physical exam, give recommendations for nutrition, training and litterbox etiquitte. Heartworm and flea prevention should also be discussed. Your doctor will also recommend the best time to have your kitten neutered, which is probably also when the hernia will be repaired.

Enjoy your new furry family member!

It's impossible to say for sure without seeing it, but my first suspicion would be a hernia. When they're very small, they usually only contain fat, but can potentially enlarge over time and trap gut within the hernial sac. If you're giving the kittens away, as against selling them, I think you can probably just wait until it goes to a new owner and point it out to them. Hernia repair in young animals is usually done at the time of desexing. What age are you planning on rehoming? They're due for their first vaccination very soon anyway, so I certainly wouldn't make a trip to the vet just for this lump unless it gets larger, becomes painful or the kitten is showing signs of illness. However, if you're asking any money for them, they ought to be vet checked before you sell them in any case, so it can be checked out then.

My mother's kitten had one. She took it to the Vet and he had to remove it. In some cases it can kill the kitten. What it is, Im not sure - but I suspect a hernia of some sort or perhaps tumor.

At any rate I seen and felt the "squishy lump" and sounds like the same as her kitten's lump.

You need to take the kitten to a vet. I found this:
As with any lump or bump on any animal, it is best to have it evaluated immediately for cancer. Early detection often leads to more and better treatment options as well as a better chance for survival. Usually, bloodwork, xrays, and lymph node evaluation are done initially to see if there is any internal involvement. The mass must be biopsied (there are several different ways to do this) and the tissue is sent to a veterinary pathologist who is trained to diagnose the problem, help with treatment options, and give a prognosis. If you are dissatisfied with your veterinarian's care, you should get a copy of your records and seek a second opinion. There are veterinary specialists that specialize in oncology and your veterinarian may be able to give you some names in your area. Good luck!

When we first got our dog (and he is almost 8 years old now), he had squishy bumps on him to, near his ribs really. They felt like you would imagine frog or tadpole eggs to be. Little tiny bubbles maybe, hard to describe, but I knew right away what you mean't by squishy bumps. Anyway, the vet told us they came from stress or a tramatic experience. We assumed that our dog had them from being taken from his "home" at the age of 6 mos and moved to our house. Hope this helps.

that sounds very much klike a hernia - depending on HOW BIG and Where, it can be very dangerous, or it can be something they fix when the kitten is desexed.

to be safe, get baby to the vet ASAP - a strangulated hernia can kill in 24 to 48 hrs, as the gut is shut-off from circulation.

and don't play with or HANDLE the hernia - just let it be!

the 'sqush' is internal-organs slipping into the gap - so don't touch, please, till the vet gets a good look!

hope kitty is just fine...
hernias are not rare, but they can be nasty, so try not to worry, but please go ASAP.

I wouldn't freak. It does sound like a hernia. Some animals just have them. If the kitty is happy it wouldn't be worrying it much. Just get a vet to look at it. Could be there for ever.

Well, first of all we need more information. How old is the kitten? Where did you get him from? Is it his navel? Could he have a hernia? How long has the bump been there?

Awww....I'd be worried too. Take him to the vet for his first checkup and set of shots and let his vet know about the bump. Good luck. I hope it's nothing serious!
