This arguing generally happens among people who are inflexible about their beliefs. Members of many religions, as well as atheists, are certain that they "know" the truth.
The world would be a much better place if we were all agnostics. Being an agnostic simply means acknowledging that we don't really "know" the truth about whether god exists. You be an agnostic and still believe that there is a god. I am, and I do. I believe god is real, for various reasons, but because I know my belief is unproven, I don't feel the need to force it on anyone else or even insist that I am "right..." Which I may or may not be.
You can also be an agnostic and still believe that there is no god. (Yes, atheism is a belief, just like theism is.)
Also, though, many Christians seem to be insulted by things that aren't actually insults. (I haven't observed this with atheists, although I'm sure it happens.) For instance, it is NOT an insult for someone to state that they don't believe in Jesus or the Bible. It is not an insult to ask an honest question about the Bible's validity. It is NOT "intolerance" to expect that Christians keep their beliefs out of our laws. And so on. These things are usually deemed insulting by the Christians on this board, even when asked with respect. It's very annoying from a non-Christian perspective because you feel like you can't get a decent answer from anyone.

Oh well, you got criticized because of your spelling, don't you see? I once suggested a new category for "VENT" & someone reported & my question was removed. (This was NOT a violation.) The fact that people are different is what motivates the insults & bashing. Someone here said they didn't see anything like this in real life, but this is what I find fascinating--Yahoo Answers represents a great diversity of people--just like in "real" life. (Isn't this real life?) Oops. Better not put in too many question marks, or someone will report me as "Not a Question Not an Answer." I wonder if this is chatting: Jim H wrote "Good un ya" which only one peson I know has ever said. In Aussie slang, it's "faridickum"--good on ya! In an idealistic world--all this wouldn't be happening. I've observed that Atheists, however, (unless very, very mean spirited &/or foolish) don't try nearly as often to convert Christians, as Christians try to convert them. (Just doing a little research...)

Very good question. The fact is that there are some Christians and Atheists who do want to get along but there are also some who really don't care or give that much concern for human relations. I have asked two questions similar to this and other people before you have also questioned the insults after insults that people have hurled upon each other here. It is really bad, and it's good that people post these questions every so often to make people think, but some people just don't care.

I get along fine with atheists. I don't really read a whole lot of the other comments, but I tell ya....some of the questions asked by the more rude atheists (not all are rude, there are some really; very kind and polite and understanding atheists that keep their mind open...i'm not speaking of you)...can only be begging for a rude reply. I TRY to be polite...but sometimes sarcasm is just too tempting to pass up on the rude atheists.

Yeng and yang? Who are they? Are you chinese...or sorry don't start yelling ...korean?oops maybe singaporean ........no I will just rephrase the question as all east asians are the same to me: are you east asian?
Atheists think christians are dumb for believing in fairy tales and resent christians for trying to enforce their silly beliefs onto everyone else ,by canvassing the support of other stupid people, and by politics.
Christians either feel a strong urge to save their fellow men from the fires of hell or resent atheists for misunderstanding their doctrines and philosophies which were developed over thousands of years of strenuous intellectual work.

I notice some people just like being rude. I can understand the questions that deserve it but some are sincere questions that do not need a hateful rude answer. I did a little test yesterday with 2 different questions and I was really surprised at one of my questions, I got some very good responses and one maybe two insults, but the second one I got maybe 2 decent replies and the rest were insults like you were never a Christian to begin with, you are going to hell, you need Jesus etc, etc.
I was not suprise at all. Of course the decent replies were from pagans.

I would say that it's because of anger.
Christians react with emotions because usually the questions asked are insulting to God, Jesus and/or our beliefs. In their fury, they respond, when they should pray and allow God to give them the response needed. Christians are supposed to love and without love, how can we expect others to see what is different in our lives, what will appeal and draw them to us if not love?
A lot of people post questions here specifically for that purpose. How can I piss someone off? And most of us rise to the bait everytime.
And then, nothing is resolved.

All The religious beliefs should get along. If one doesn't like the question to the point of having to throw an insult, then don't try to answer.Sadly, there are those who thrive on insults.

This is an eternal question. I have no problem with either. I do wish one would not be the way they are but I will not be able to change them however much I try. Nor will they be able to change me.

In a perfect world that would be the way it is. But on here you are far from a perfect world. Its hard to know sometimes when someone is serious or joking. Maybe a symbol system would help
