Ok son, the SEALS are not ELITE for NO reason and all of the other answers are "I Think" answers.

First, to even be considered you have to be an E-5 with 4.0 quarterly marksand pass the E-6 test in the top quadrant. If you are an E-6 with NOTHING below a 3.4 you MIGHT be considered.

NO Recruiter in the WORLD is going to put SEAL training in your contract because you have NOT proven yourself (you might look at some of my previous posts regarding THE SEALS).

To get to E-6 takes probably 6 years. I was in the right rate, got the right assignments, showed leadership ability and made E-5 in a little under 3 years. To make this happen you also have to experience HEAVY COMBAT experience and is is SCARRY as HELL! If you aren't scared, then you are insane.

DISCLAIMER HERE!

NEVER A SEAL, just had good friends that were, Force Recon SNIPERS and RANGERS that "shared" because I had the clearance to listen a little.

Here is the deal, SEALS seem glamorous, exciting and all the rest. The bad news is that you NEVER have any sea stories to tell because you were NEVER there. Swim 1.5 miles in the open ocean on two hours sleep in the last 48+.

They used to say the old Navy was "Ships of wood and men of steel".

THANKS for considering the SERVICE!

You need to be a citizen, before you join the Navy get the SEAL challenge in your contract.

Everyone that is a citizen can get it, well at least from what I think.. But you do have to be a citizen to BE a SEAL, you'll join a 3 month program called BUD/S, Basic Underwater Demolition, then after you graduate. You'll attend extra special schools (ignore the extra, or special, they are schools like sniper schools, jump schools, etc...)...

You'll also be able to apply for a team.. How ever very few make it to graduation during BUD/s and when you wash out you are screwed. They'll just assign you a need spot, and you only get 3 tries as an Enlisted and 1 as an Officer...

Search a BUD/S documentary in Google video, there is 3 parts to it and it shows you the training in BUD/s... Damn scary... But Navy SEALs aren't all that like Hollywood say they are, different Special Operation teams do different special operation.. Like the Special Forces Operation Detachment Delta (I think that is what they are called), aka Delta Forces specialize in counter-terrorism, while Marine Force Reconnaissance specialize in their own thing and yeah.. Snipers can be considered Special Operation material in my view, after all I heard USMC Scout Sniper School is very hard.. Only the best shots go in...

Back to SEALs, if you don't get it in your contract you'll have to sign up while doing your service, so you'll have to go through interviews and medical check ups to get accepted into the Seal program.. At least you can keep your old job if you screw up...

Join the Navy and let your Recruiter know that you want to be a Navy Seal. If you qualify, then the chances are good. Better yet, go speak to your Navy Recruiter and he/she will tell you what your chances are. I know you gotta be an excellent swimmer.

ROTC is more than likely in your school , those teachers and students are the sources to learn about the military protocols near your home base
