I mean, crap, do we negotiate on Big Macs? Thats 99% profit, cars are only 8%!!!! Would you guys rather the car business was a one price, set price on New cars (used will never change)....

Kinda like Saturn or Carmax.... VW is announcing a test market in Europe trying this.... I love the idea you people are cheap!!!!

As you hopefully know, the profit percent you are stating on a new vehicle varies depending on model popularity and other factors. There are instances where sticker price plus is what will have to be paid to get the car you want. I don't know what a Big Mac is going for in your area, but 99% mark up on one is not the case here.

When I go to the dealership, I will already know all the facts I need to about the vehicle. Why should I fatten the dealerships wallet or your commission check for 15 minutes of paper work? At least the guy making the Big Mac did something useful for me.

While I am being cheap (in your opinion), why are the dealerships being greedy? Recently I purchased a new truck. I had it narrowed down to 2 makes. The 1st dealership I gave them the opportunity to make me a offer. I let them know it was a one time deal. Their offer was naturally $3,000 to high, so I walked out. A week later I went down the road to dealer #2 and this time I made the offer I wanted to. They took it and admitted that they would make exactly the amount of money that I thought they would on the deal. Since then the 1st dealer has called to try to work out a deal. Here it is 3 months later and he still has all the vehicles that fell into the type I wanted on his lot. Too bad for him.

Any business would like to work for 10+% profit. Unfortunately that is not always possible. Several construction companies who were used to 15% profit are now happy to get work at 5% profit. As long as it is profit, why complain and try to be too greedy. It seems that 5% profit for 15 minutes of work is better than no profit and making all the follow up annoyance calls.

Never. I would never buy sticker price on any car I find. Plus, dealers usually give you money off of a car before you even ask. Haggle on the price. When they say $21,500, you say $21 flat. Find something you don't like about the car, for example, say that you want leather interior, this Civic doesn't have leather.Do not talk about trade until you find a price. If they ask you, say you are going to sell it on your own. until you negotiate a price on your car. This will show you that you mean business and not to mess with you. After you find a flat price, call other dealers near you to get their price. Not saying that you will go to that dealer, but tell the dealer that you are set on the others price and they will usually go down money. If none of this works, play the walk out trick. When they are not willing to go down, walk out of the dealer. Hopefully they will have your cell number and will eventually call you soon after. I would recommend doing your dealing at night. The salesmen want to leave and will usually be softer on the purchase. Also, do not display a severe interest in the car, it works. Some car salesmen are so stupid they are smart. Good Luck!

they do that because car manufacturers can only set an MSRP, not what the dealer actually sells it for. Dealers are fairly independant of manufacturers, and do their business how they please.

Its also the reason car salesmen exist. a dealer can make 3-4 grand more on one customer than they can on others. its the nature of the business.

i own a repair shop, and also hold a dealers license i don't think people should over react to paying for a vehicle,,all dealers have to make money on them,,other wise they couldn't stay in business, and every body likes to save money on one,,but as far as having one set price,,that wouldn't go over real good either,,but,,we people aren't real cheap,,don't you like to save money on an item when you buy it like ,lets say a new set of tires,,your not going to pay retail,,if you can get them for whole sale now are you,,so were not cheap,,we just like all the other people in the world,,we like to feel we have saved some money,,even if we haven't,at least let us think we have,,good luck ,,hope this help,s
