Me again. Another part of my survey has to do with drug addicts. If you are or know someone who does please answer the following questions.

When did you start? Why? Did your or the one you know have a behavior change? If so how? Any other info about the affects of the drug addiction is helpful.

Thank you.

I am a regular pot smoker. I started when I was in grade nine, and now I am in grade twelve. I started just simply because I was curious and wanted to see what it was like.. And then, well. I really liked it. I used to just get high and let my imagination run wild, it helped me a lot with doing homework, drawing, and stuff like that. It also helped me to concentrate in class. I was on a whole new level of thinking. Then in grade eleven I was all sketchy about smoking pot at school so I went through a bout where I did morphine daily.. And to a very scary extent. I would pop ten pills at a time.. I was going through depression and was drinking a lot as well, which you are never supposed to mix the two. I stopped after two weeks because it started getting really weird, I was hallucinating and was all shaky I could barely stand up anymore.. I actually vomited in class. It was terrible and extremely stupid of me. Anyways after that I went through counselling and whatnot.. I still smoke pot now but I find its effect much different than before that whole morphine thing. It used to inspire me to think beyond but now I find all it does it dull me down, and sometimes I get the same feelings I had while on morphine. I no longer smoke pot at school and hardly ever with friends. I have to do it at night because without it I have a really hard time trying to fall asleep.

It is really hard to say if I noticed a change in my behaviour because I am still so young. Though sometimes if I go without it for a few days I am very irritable and sometimes get mad over small things; I make molehills into mountains.

I know that marijuana is not a physically addictive substance, but there is no doubt that it has the potential to be emotionally addictive.. And I believe that is what I am experiencing.

I never did because I had grand mal seizures from 1978 to 1986 which were fortunately controlled by anti-seizure medication. My husband however is a recovering cocaine addict, 17 yrs clean. He started as a young teen with pot, which eventually progressed to harder drugs. He did not shoot up nor was he an alcoholic. Alcohol however did aide and abet his cravings for cocaine. I did not meet him until 3 months into his last recovery, but I do know that the drugs contributed to his mood swings which were diagnosed as manic-depression. He is not on medication now, but he was for several years. he has pretty good control of his anger. He is not physically violent but he definitly has a foul mouth when angry or frustrated. He is a perfectionist, doen't like to ask for help and refuses to back away from a problem until resolved no matter how irritating the issue.

My mother's identical twin brothers were also involved with drugs and alcohol. They started as children sniffing gas in the 1950's. both became aloholics. One died in 1972, from progressive brain damage sustained in a car accident. He was DUI. Luckily no one else was involved. It took him 6 months to die. The surviving uncle was married 4 times, in and out of jail for drunk driving, and violent according to what my aunts and my uncle told to my mother. My uncle told my mom that during his last stint in prison, he was told by the prison psychiatrist that he was psychotic. He was never able to stay clean and sober outside of prison. He died about 10 years ago on Mother's day soon after wife #4 asked for a divorce. He left the house in a drunken rage, hit a tree going 100mph. He died on impact. No one else was involved in the accident.

I used to do drugs.I started at 16,in a new school. the only ones that wanted anything to do with me was the drinking and drugging crowd.Drugs brought me from an honor student to a drop out. caused alot of friction with my family.Turned me into a run away.It took me nowhere FAST.Put me on the streets.sleeping where ever with whoever, just to have a place to stay. While all this was happening,I thought I was cool,I was someone.
Once I finally shook too and decided I couldnt live this way,I sobered up and cleaned up.Im 48,sober and clean for 6 years. All I wanted to be when i was little was a vetrenarian.Drugs put an end to my dreams!!!!
Im doing good today.I own my own cleaning business. And I go on speaking commitments to help other addicts(alcohol and drug)
Hope this hepled! Please I hope you never find yourself having to climb out of the crazy sick world of addiction!!!!

I started smoking marijuana on a regular basis when I was 22 yrs. old, after I started having uncontrollable grand mal seizures that weren't controlled by the prescription anti-seizure meds they had me on. None of the prescription meds I've been on have ever worked, marijuana did.

I was once married to an alcoholic. He started when he was 16 and started to steal. When he drank, he became abusive and evil. He would lie, cheat, steal, punch, kick, laugh. He is now 38 years old and has already had a heart attack. I bet his liver is pickled now.
