I've been to DC many times and my uncle used to work there as well. I've stayed in: Marriott Metro Center (Around 150 a night), Marriott Crystal Gateway (Around 130 a night), Grand Hyatt (Around 130 a night), Hyatt Regency DC (around 130), and Hyatt Arlington (About 109). I'd reccommend any of these places again, i'd go to www.hotels.com and look at these and it'll tell you whats near them. I'm pretty sure they are all near a metro center and they are all in a safe location. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Monuments and memorials, modern neighbourhoods, true local flavour it's this that Washington, DC is; a location unlike any; just like this web site hotelbye . Washington it's your property away from home with free museums and America's front yard. Washington is acknowledged around the world as a symbol of the United States. Here, the area you can't miss is the Capitol. Capitol is the seat of the House of Representatives and the Senate. The enormous dome, on the basis of the dome of St. Peter's in Rome, stands out above all other Washington buildings. Like Washington it self, the developing has grown over time because the key portion was created between 1793 and 1812. The past improvement, in 1958-62, enlarged the main façade where presidents get the oath. On another part, a marble terrace presents beautiful views over the mall and the city. The inside is resplendent with frescoes, reliefs, and paintings, especially the rotunda underneath the good cast-iron dome with a ceiling painting by Constantino Brumidi and big paintings of displays from American history on the walls.

Post some of your suggestions and I'd be happy to rate the ones I know! Yes, METRO is the way to go. If you can get in that Marriott Wardman Park, it's such a great place with kids because of walking to the zoo, the length/breadth of the property is fun for kids, they have a METRO stop on the property...lovely neighborhood for walking, quite safe etc. But making $200 a night is tough...it depends upon when you are going.

I am planning a trip in early Feb. I got a great deal on priceline.com at the Westin Grand in the city and my flight for 3 nights at $600 out of Grand Rapids, MI straight into Reagan Airport.
You might want to try that website.

any thing close will be expensive if you stay to far away you have to drive in & try to find parking ,which is hard to find& costly. If you take tours, you don't get to stay at a place as long s you want. so it is 6 of one& half a dozen of the other. by staying out farther you will save enough to pay for the extras.

We stayed in Maryland. It is less than an hour's drive to DC. The hotels are less expensive there. This would be convenient if your family members are flying.
