Here's your breakdown of cream sold in the US:
* Half and half (10.5–18% fat)
* Light, coffee, or table cream (18–30% fat)
* Medium cream (25% fat)
* Whipping or light whipping cream (30–36% fat)
* Heavy whipping cream (36% or more)
* Extra-heavy or manufacturer's cream (38–40% or more), generally not available at retail.
Not all grades are defined by all jurisdictions, and the exact fat content ranges vary. The above figures are based on the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21, Part 131 [1][2] and a small sample of state regulations.
As far as recipes go, unless you're being told to use specifically light whipping cream, then whipping cream and heavy cream will do the same things chemically and tastically.

Heavy cream, with a fat content of about 40%, is the product used to make whipped cream. The terms "heavy cream" and "whipping cream" are generally used interchangeably.
There is a product called "light whipping cream," with a fat content of about 30%... to ensure successful whipped cream from this product, chill your cream, beaters and bowl in the freezer for 30 minutes before you start beating. (You can even get a successful whipped cream from "light cream" - 20% fat content - if you follow this pre-chill method.

Heavy and heavy whipping cream are the comparable ingredient. Whipping cream has slightly much less butterfat in it. i've got given you a link under to assessment them. Any of them may be advantageous for cheesecake, yet a heavy cream would be richer with the better butterfat content fabric than employing whipping cream.
