Who says we FEAR death? We just believe that God has a purpose for us here on Earth and to do anything LESS than to FIGHT to survive and to do His will is to cop out! Don't worry, when it's my time to go, I WANT TO GO!
(until then, you're stuck with me, Sweetie)!

Your question suggests that we are the choosers of our destiny while the believer trusts that it is God who decides where and when one shall be placed...
So the believer wants to play his role in the assigned place (present body)... after all, it is He who is going to terminate life even if one goes to hospital and the believer will accept it... or He saves the believer and allows him to continue life and live His message of Love...
But your question is evidently trying to expose the weak faith of most believers in the heaven and earth theories told to them... You should know that it is not just lack of faith... it is a tendency of the people because the "illusion" (call it play of satan..) is so strong about the "reality" of the created world with its charm of all evils, that one looks to God more as an unknown protection than the felt experience (that is, he wants to believe in Godhood because the message of the Lord are positive and logical than the enticing world of illusion)... So a fear lurks when still hoping for the best...
A further weak link in the religious institutions is the hypocrisy (play of illusion again..) that grips the clergy themselves who have not strengthened their own faiths in what they preach and engage in ostentations, hostility etc... against the message of Love that the Lord has given to mankind...
I have seen (note I am not a Xian but a believer in God born in another Faith) some staunch (not staunchest) believers refuse to take medicines for their illness, suffer the pangs of pain with prayers on lips.... and get alright invariably... (they belong to a certain denomination of your religion - that insists on such practical faith... though it is not popular - obvious reasons..)!
He who is Faithful is saved already, he who wishes to be fully Faithful (weak believers) will also be blessed in time, but the sceptics neither have faith nor have the intention to look at the positive aspects of the schools of faith and remain where they are.. atleast they may ignore what does not attract them and engage in positive activities (bereft of a God faith) instead of attacking the believers...

Two reasons:
Some people believe we have a purpose to fulfill here, and dying because you didn't take care of yourself (ie go to the doctor/hospital/whatever) cuts short your life and may not let you fulfill your purpose
Biologically, we're programed to be afraid of death. Biological urges are very difficult to overcome, no matter how much a person believes they're going to heaven.

I believe God has a plan and a place in that plan for each of us. I believe for instance, God has called me to be a father, so it is up to me to be alive and well to take care and teach my children for as long as I can. Plus, a relationship with God on earth yields many blessings the longer one lives.

I like your question but my answer most respectably is that they respect life that their creator gave them, maybe they take what you can get type deal or this world may be a test mindset for them, lots of scenarios come to mind and im sure people hold life sacred and worth living.

We only really know our Earthly life. It's like going to summer camp and leaving the folks for the first time. You've heard things, but you don't know what it's all about and will it be okay.
Humans tend to fight and claw to survive, cause life is all we got and there is a lingering fear of "Will I go to Heaven?" "Will I go to Hell?" "Is there an afterlife?"
We fear the unknown. Everyone does.

I do appreciate my life. Scripture says in Philippians 1:21 "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain" Hallelujah! I love the life the Lord has for me and I love His daily blessing and revelation, but a day comes where it is truly God for eternity, and that is greater than the life here on earth!

Not everyone trusts God on the same level. If they did the hospitals would be empty and doctors would be out of business.

I look forward to heaven. However I dont want to leave my babies..or my husband. Its human nature to not want to leave the comforts you have now. Even though we are saved and going to heaven we are still human..and still have human worries. God is good enough to take care of those worries..and I have faith in that when it is my time to die.
