I do not put underwear on my children at night. They sleep in their pjs, and my husband thinks that is very odd, that they should have them on. I think they do not need that restriction or extra layer to overheat...what do you think?

This is very much personal preference and I do not in anyway think you are odd for saying they don't need them. the mom usually sort of handles this area of things anyway, I think.

My sister, my brother and myself never wore them with pj's and when I was ateen I preferred nothing at all and that was OK too.

I wear pj bottoms now in the winter and never add underwear. i have tried it and it makes the "AREA" sweat more than I like.

With my kids, when they were growing up. neither cared for them. My daughter didn't wear them with a gown or pj's and she managed not to show. Same with my boy and his PJ's.

I think they will sweat less and feel fresher without them.

My wife just said none of her siblings ever wore them either, so there is nothing odd about no undies.

I think that no undies under PJ's is just fine, as long as they are clean PJ's each night. Some young children should wear them, to catch little accidents. They should, however, be worn during the day for protection of the genitals as well as the clothing. Pants can sometimes pinch and be uncomfortable. My husband and I have always worn underwear at all times and so have our children. I would let the children decide, if they are old enough.

Well only one of my three children are potty trained so my answer is no I do not put underwear on her at night. The reason being is that she is prone to urinary tract infections/yeast infections and my dr advised me that at night to leave her bare. I guess it is because she can get overheated while sleeping and therefore the bacteria won't spread and cause an infection. Plus I like it when she gets up and goes pee in the night - she has one less thing to pull down otherwise she may just end up peeing in her pj's. So I don't think you are odd at all - but I know my husband questioned me at first too....

Hi there..I have a 5 year old son and just in the past few months he had started to wear underwear under his pj's. He used to take them off before he put on pj's. I let my child decide he can make those simple decisions for himself, it is his body not mine.

I certainly think that children need underwear under their pj's and/or under their regular clothes. In the case of young girls, if they get used to not having underwear on, and then start their menses, if they use a sanitary napkin, where will they attach it? In the case of young boys, well, let's just say that the restriction of the underwear can save some embarrassment from a flag pole trying to wave old glory. As far as overheating, they should be sleeping in room temperature (65-75 degrees) so there should be no danger of overheating. I have always gone with what makes the children happy. My boys do not like to wear shirts to their pj's, so I do not make them. If your children don't like to wear underwear, then don't make them wear them.

Good question, but I think putting underwear on him is a good idea. My husband let my son walk around with no underwear under his pj's and he kept saying he didnt like it, he feels more comfortable with underwear on, so we keep underwear on him. He is only 4 though, I dont' know how old yours are. Good Luck.

It depends on what is comfortable for the child. If they don't mind not wearing underwear, it is just fine. If they would prefer to wear it, that is OK too.

My 7 year old grandson, who lives with us, won't wear anything but underpants and an undershirt to bed --and sometimes not even that.

It is not a big enough issue to fight over ---when they get older they will decide for themselves anyway.

I say it depends on how comfortable the child is. My daughter hated not wearing undies, but I have never worn them under my PJ's for as long as I ever can remember. My mom used to make me wear them when I had a night gown on. And for those who say its odd... think of it like this, boys who sleep with boxers and tee shirts... do you make them put a boxer on top of a boxer?

If your child is comfortable, let them be, if not put the undies on.

People are too uptight about everything these days, there is nothing odd or wrong with that.

I wear underwear and so do my kids. A friend of mine let her daughter go without at night too and all was fine till one day she went to school with no underwear on (wearing a dress). Not only did she get a call from the school, but she had to explain to her daughter she had to wear underwear in certain situations. Her daughter still has a hard time accepting she is supposed to wear underwear and a year later my friend still catches her not wearing any and has to make her put them on. She told me she now wishes she just made wear them to begin with. Just a thought . . .
