This is to reduce controversies or differences in intepretations and understandings. It is also to avoid some persistence or opportunity to play up the teaching of the apostles or disciples more than the teacher, Jesus Christ.

I would suggest that other Testaments be added as well, such as the Qur'an, Dhammapada, Zend-Avesta, Bhagavad-Gita, Bayan and Kitab-i-Aqdas. Then the Bible would more correctly reflect the numerous progressive revelations of God to humankind.

In response to Booth, Revelation was not the last book written in the Bible. Some of the Gospels were written after Revelation. Furthermore, the Christian canon was closed by human beings, not by God. The Bible prophesied that true prophets would come after Jesus Christ and doesn't exclude the possibility that there were true prophets in other parts of the world before Jesus Christ, i.e. Zoroaster, Krishna.

Sorry....as long as people are allowed the freedom to go off and start their own churches and give their own interpretation -- really, spin -- on things there will be controversies and misunderstandings. You can have as many errors in just 4 gospels and Revelation as you can in the entire NT as it is now. Of course, that's the joke about Protestantism -- it multiplies....by division!

All that's really missing from your suggested canon are the letters to early Christian communities and the Acts. That won't change the fact that the Bible is a giant Rorschach test. People have always, and will always, see what they want to see.
