It sounds incredibly easy to me. You just pick an infectious disease (like HIV/AIDS for example) or genetic disorder and do a web search for it and up pops all the information you need.
So what exactly is so hard about this?

It wouldn't be hard to find the history of HIV at all, the symptoms of it are listed on a million websites, and you probably should already know preventive measures (like using condoms, no needle sharing, etc).

Sounds like a 30 minute project at the most. Just make sure you properly cite your sources and choose decent sources of information.

I have a son with a genetic disease that you can do your report on. It is called Di George syndrome also called VCFS. It effects his 22nd chromosome. It is fast becoming one of the most seen after downs syndrome. It effects many body functions and would be a good subject as many people probably have not heard of it. I am sure someone else in your class will do AIDS and all that, but if you want to be different I would choose a genetic disorder. It will show your instructor that you are thinking outside the box and that you really chose something different to research.
Here are some links: http://www.vcfsef.org/ Or even better...This is my favorite site : http://www.22q.org/ It shows the human aspect of having the disorder.
Good Luck!

ok, so a disease caused by bacteria includes, strep, staph, etc. it can be treated with an antibiotic, which is made of bacteria that counteracts the bad bacteria. it was created by anlexander flemming. pennicillin or amoxicillin are 2 popular antibiotics.
a disease caused by a virus can NOt b treated with medicine. u must wait out for the virus to go away. however, u CAN get vaccines, which have a bit of a dead or weak virus in it. it is so the cells recognize the virus if it ever enters the body. the reason u need vaccines every year is because viruses mutate and change, so they have to get a NEW vaccine to fight the mutated virus. it is the same for bacteria and antibiotics.
the best thing for a virus is bedrest and fluids.
some virus diseases include HPV, ebola (liquifys interal organs), and the flu or common cold.

i recommend wikipedia.com.

its a free online encyclopedia that is very helpful.

i hope that helps. its just to get u started =]

How about a genetic disorder like Down's syndrome? You'll find plenty of web sites for it.
