My girlfriend works 3rd shift and she just got on full time. When she gets in from work, she goes on to bed. She sleeps all day until its time to go back to work. It bothers me that I don't get to talk to her during the day, but I get to talk to her alittle bit before before she goes into work. It bothers me that I don't get to talk to her alot, but I don't want to be a cry baby about it. As a boyfriend, how should I act towards this and what things can i do to be supportve about this?

I used to work 3rd shift and my then boyfriend, now husband, always tried to deal with it the best way he could without telling me. Finally, when I went into mgmt. and my hours grew to 13 or 14 hrs over night, he told me how much he missed me at night and how he hated sleeping alone. I think you should definitely tell her that it bothers you, and that you want to be close again or that you feel like this difference in schedule is really putting space between the two of you. She should feel lucky to have a guy who doesn't want to be away from her through the night, and wants to see more of her through the day. It really put a lot of space between my husband and myself, and it took a long time to get back to being as close as we wanted to be. 11 years--and still going strong!!

Do what I did, I tried getting my work done a little earlier/later and would go in very early or sometimes very late and bring a desert or breakfast and take a break together.

Otherwise you could help her (and yourself) if you both want to get her a job with better hours, what is around for doing that.

It's actually always (I find) the least trouble to look for a better job (more money , better hours etc) while you currently have one. If you start looking when you're not working that is when it tends to stink the most.
