Genesis, when translated correctly from Hebrew does not support creatio ex nihilo but instead puts forth an idea of a universe of water--that water always existed, a "primordial deep" and that God basically reorganized these waters to create the universe--there was land already below the waters and God just separated it out to create a world for humans. Considering this, do you think that the Big Bang Theory could make sense--there was a mass of something, and God divinely intervened to make it fit for life? I know the Big Bang Theory involves a mass of rock--but basically, could there be any way to make this theory work within the confines of the Creation story?

Yes, the Big Bang theory is in Genesis. Infact, Genisis makes the scientific explanation of the begging of the universe and Earth
very simple to understand. Its really brillant. The first time I ever read it I said to myself, this is the big bang.
A little clue to help you. Earth was already predetermined when the Big Bang occured. In the Quran and Bible, this rock we live on is officially called "Earth" when it is covered in water. Clue two, when the earth was forming, the universe was still expanding, as it is expanding today. Clue three, the Big Bang was a very bright, ,massive explosion occupnied with light and materials. Clue four 6 days, doesn't mean six days, if you look at Einstein's theory of relativity, if anything travelled away from the Earth in the speed of light for several minutes, millions of years would have gone by on Earth. I'm not making this up, Albert Einstein devloped this theory. Clue five, the formation of Earth doesn't come before the formation of the universe, they occured at the same time, because Earth was preordained when the universe started. So the bible is talking about "two earths" so to speak, preordained Earth and Earth that was covered in water (thus was able to give life to single cell organism, eventually humans.) Clue six, the biggest clue, Geniesis is very accelrated, with the animals and people's names. It says in very simple terms, so simple that people look down on it: Big Bang Earth is preordained the stars are created, Earth undergoes many stages but it begans to first substain life (cells)when it is covered in water, sea life emerges it evoles (what the term "after its kind" actually means) land life emerges form the sea life and evolves, both land and sea animals dwell, prehistoric humans evolve, fist they have no state of counsciousness and are animal in menatlity, then they are burdened when the predetermined free will, they evolve have children, a few are namedm so migrate to other lands. And thus humanity starts and the journey of the human being.

I could literally right a whole book on it, It is amazing.

I am so happy you asked this question.

First, almost all scientist agree that there must be 5 elements in existence for the universe to exist.
1. TIME
2. ENERGY
3. FORCE
4. SPACE
5. MATTER

Now read with me the first verse of the bible.
"In the beginning (time) God (energy) created (force) the heavens (space) and the earth. (matter)

There is a way for science and religion to co-exist. The bible says that to God a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day. Which means God does not abide by time since he is from forever to forever.

Scientist say it took billions of years for the earth to start forming until present day. If God wanted to he could have allowed the forces of nature to work through His will. In other words the first billion years could have been just a day in His point of view. here we have the answer that "The Big Bang" and "Creation" could have been as one.

Note this however. There HAS to be a Supreme Being of some sort. Most call Him God. You CAN NOT get something from nothing unless a Supreme Being made it. So God could have created the 5 elements needed for the universe to form and then allowed the natural forces to take control.

Well, that's my theory and to me it sounds reasonable.

There are two schools of thought in this area from the Christian Perspective. The first is a literal translation of Genesis. The Second is a more scientifically understood method of reasoning. Each view upon basic review seems biblically based. Since understanding Creation is not essential for salvation, nor do I personally think it is fully understandable, I generally conclude in saying I don't know.

However if you think about it (or even test it) in geaneology, all mankind must have come from a single set of parents. (adam and eve)

Here is an analogy. The creation model is a literal translation of Genesis 1 in which days are 24 hour spans of time. If existance were an painting, then it would have taken God 6 days to paint the picture. With the God of the Bible, it is entirely possible.

The big bang model says that genesis 1 is basically figurative (more like poetry) in which the "days" refer to spans of time. In terms of painting a picture, God uses a needle rather than a paint brush to paint the picture of Creation, in that he makes each point or dot perfectly aligned where it needs to go, taking all the time He wants because He is eternal.

Here are the sites. They both have much more insight than I do.

The big bang theory does not involves a mass of rock... it well involves a big bang! An explosion of an Element (Hydrogen) from which other havier elements(Helium, Lithium and others) formed. And after billions of years of process plannets were created. To explaing the whole process it would require me to write like 4 pages. And btw to those who think Big bang is nothing but someone opinion which is true it is an opinion but this opinion is being turned into a fact. Infact a professor at UC Berkeley actually found evidence that support the Big Bang theory even more.

It would be nearly impossible to organize the observable evidence for the Big Bang into another substantially different theory of the origin of the universe. So, in that sense, the Big Bang makes sense.

To whatever degree religious creation myths appear to symbolize the Big Bang theory is - as they say in the movies - purely coincidental.

You can turn sentences in the bible into science because the biblical text makes no sense, and you know science is correct, but at the same time deny it hence the blending in part. Like christianity and paganism.Genesis the whole story consists of a god who was always there but just decided to make us 6,000 years ago for some reason, if anything by any means is correct its that evolution was assisted by a higher power but not of the story you are told.

I know, I'm weird and I incorporate both into my delusional world. For example, I believe in G-d, I feel that the big bang did not create the universe because the universe was never created...but I feel that G-d made or used a big bang to create our solar system...which to someone in the time of Moses was the only universe in the world

You might be interested in a book called "Genesis and the Big Bang: The Discovery Of Harmony Between Modern Science And The Bible". It was written by a scientist.

All the big bang theory says is that something happened to create the universe as we know it. All genesis says is that got did something to create the earth. Couldn't God have causedthe big bang to happen to create earth? Why do we have a view that He did it out of pure magic?

Sorry... it's a stretch. Big Bang won't work. Read A Case for A Creator by Lee Strobel. God created the world in 7 days - I'd say that's more amazing and more believable than a big bang anyway. God bless you. ~Nise
