horrible cold: 7 pm

How can I kill the bulk of this cold by 7 am tomorrow, or at least look as if I dont have a cold, so I can go to school and work (fast food)?

Robitussin DM, and nasal spray for drainage, you will blow your nose so much you think your kidneys will pop out, but it will keep you really clear, the DM will help with any possible congestion to prevent a cough, otherwise just go for the psudefed

I'm sorry to hear you are sick.

As you know colds are caused by viruses so no antibiotic will help you. But there are some things you can do (or take) to help control the symptoms.

Drink lots of water. You lose more fluids when you are sick so you need to replenish them. I also think that drinking a lot flushes the viruses out of your system...but that's probably just some placebo effect ;-)

Sleep a lot. If you can't sleep, lay in the dark and meditate. Your body does most of its healing while you are at rest.

It would be best if you could take a day off so you won't spread the virus to your coworkers. Especially these first few days when you feel really rotten and are sneezing and coughing the most. If you can't take a day off try and telecommute. While you're home sleep and then take a walk. Light exercise when you are sick is good for you - it will make you feel less exhausted. Take a nice hot shower when you are done and then go back to bed.

If you have to go into work you can try to some of the zillions of over the county cold remedies. These suppress symptoms like sinus headaches and supposedly reduce coughing. But I know a study last year (or the year before) found that the cough suppressant syrups didn't do any better at suppressing coughs than did doing nothing. Expectorants did work (as I remember) to loosen congestion and help you cough up all that crap. But suppressants didn't.

In short:
Drink water
Sleep
Light exercise
Drink water
Hot shower
Sleep
Drink water

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon

There is no miracle cure (unfortunately!!) however I know a few things that'll make you feel better for a while.

Make sure you keep up your fluids. Oranges, Lemons, Tomatoes and other fruits high in vitamin C are also good for soothing the throat and helping you recover quicker. I find Butter Menthol Echinacea is ok but it only relieves the symptoms while you are sucking the lolly. Look after your nose so it doesn't get too sore (and so you don't get a red nose!).

Most important of all though is rest. Get lots of sleep and hopefully you'll be better soon. Sometimes it is better to have a day off so you can get better sooner. Often working too much before you are better just makes your cold worse and last longer.

Get well soon!

You probably have that nasty sinus cold that is going around thanks to all this mild and moldy weather.

I usually take zinc and vitamin C tablets by Jamieson the instant I feel a cold coming on and it usually offsets it quite a bit...not with this one though it was a doosey. Had it for a week really bad too. Hope it's not the same cold for your sake but really you should REST...you only prolong it when your body is saying shut down and you're forcing it to go.

Hope for your sake it's a lot better though...I know these blasted colds always hit at the worst time...I had to go to New Years with a fever and I was the one throwing this bash at a hall and in charge of food and all too....OMG it was pure hell. Sure hope I didn't pass it on but hey, not much I could do about it so many were counting on me.

You however, should not be working in a fast food place sick. One customer complaint is all that's needed to get you fired and the health department on your bosses case kiddo. :~)

Go to the CVS and get Airborne. It knocks colds out fast. Take some Tylenol Cold too to really kick the crap out of it!
