We're moving home and how do I make sure my cat won't go on a hike looking for our old place? Is there a good way of making sure he adjusts to our new home and doesn't feel like running off homeward bound?

Make sure you take his kitty bed and keep track of it during the move. Try to make things as "normal" for him as possible...the time he eats, the foods, the dishes, the litter box, the brand of litter, and if possible, the location of the litter box. (If it was in the bathroom before, put it in the new bathroom.) If he slept in your room at night before, make sure you find him and put him in your bedroom at the new place before bed at night.

The best way to keep him from looking for his old home is to keep him indoors!

When I move to a new place I always put my cat in one of the bedrooms for most of the day. This way she is not overwhelmed with all the new space. Besides there is usually too much activity going on with moving, like in and out, and the chances of her getting outside are much higher. I always put the food/water/liter in the same spot and I physically take her to where each is to let her know. Megan C is right on in her answer.

Yes alot of kittys will do that. Keep him inside for at least 2 weeks and keep his food & litter Don't move it at all in the 1st 2wk period. I have often fed the cat extra when I first move. Let him sleep w you Cats are more adaptable to places than people sometimes. I have moved several times w/my 14 yr old kitty.

Lock her in. Feed her in the new place. Let her sniff the stuff out.

Cats seem to get attached to furniture, if you are bringing your old furniture it makes it easier.

Keep her inside at first until she is used to her surroundings. I once heard that you put butter on their feet, why or how this works to keep them from wondering off, I'm not quite sure....................
