My hair is colored, so i go to the salon at least once every 3 months for a re-touch/touch up. They already charge me a large amount of money for doing that. When it's time to pay, they expect a tip & i usually feel bad if i don't give one. Since i already pay so much for the touch up, is it mandatory to leave a tip? sometimes, i don't like their attitude or how they re-touch my roots. Why do i still feel obligated to leave them a tip? if it is mandatory, then how much is good enough to leave them?

You know how I feel about tips? They are sooo lame, okay they are already getting paid for their job & what they are doing so why do we need to tip them when we just paid them for what they did!!! like at restaurants, our waiter is getting paid for being a waiter, I don't understand why we need to leave them a tip when all they were doing is there job & got paid for it! And if they complain they need tips then choose another job! uggggh!!!

ABSOLUTELY!! it may be pricey-but you have to remember that the stylist doesn't by any means get all that money. There are many different ways that the salons work the way the stylists are payed but the cost of the products first has to be covered, and then half goes to the owner or company they work for. And some chain salons-if they don't make their commission for the week they just get a base hourly rate! Plus stylists kind of depend on their tips-like waitresses-it really is a slap in the face if there is no tip, then we kinda wonder if the customer didn't like the service. sorry girl-just tellin the truth : )
-generally it's 15-20%

I believe that most hairstylists work on commisions and actually depending on your stylists, you might get better deals from another girl in the same salon.
If you are a regular and only there for touch-ups then you cant be expected to leave a tip every time. When it come time to have the cut and color done again then just remeber that they are there making a living.

it is not mandatory to leave them a tip but it is pretty much expected, the tip amount is up to you and what they did for you that day. i would say usually always give a tip

tips are never mandatory. They are to reward a good job. Even tho some people expect them, they are not mandatory all the time

A tip is not mandatory, but if you don't give one, be sure to go elsewhere in the future to get your hair done!

I've always been a generous tipper, whether it's deserved or not, but it's not mandatory at all. I'd say if your stylist knows you well, then it's more the thought that matters than anything else.

I don't even go to a hairstylist, but my conviction is that it wouldn't hurt to give tips every now and then. Besides, you can never go wrong with it. Look at it like this......if you ever needed your stylist for anything, they might treat you for free!

find another salon, because you are not feeling comfortable
and check out ,how much will it cost,if the tip is included in the ticket, and others details, after all ,you are the one who pays for the service, and looks that you are not having a relaxing time when you do your hair,

Wow can I just say how glad I am to live in Australia. We tip waiters, maybe cab drivers, and that's it. Period. Geez if we had to tip hairdressers and stuff! And by the way its not coz Aussies are cheap, its coz we have a decent minimum wage. Solution: move to Aus!!!!
