Bake the cake first then freeze. Make sure that it is well protected in the freezer to prevent freezer burn. Then it's a simple thaw and decorate before you are ready to serve at a later date.

Bake the cake first, cool thoroughly, then freeze. Do not frost the cake before freezing. When you get the cake out for defrosting, then frost.

That soulds confusing, doesn't it?

When you remove the cake from the freezer, frost it before it thaws. This will keep the cake moist.

i worked in a bakery decorating cakes. We always baked the cakes and then froze them. It is easier to decorate and the cake is actually moister in the longrun.

"maybe" is right on... Bake it first, freeze and the decorating will be soooooooooo much easier and the cake will actually be moister.

You can freeze batter, but its hell to get it defrosted. You should go with refrigeration.
