I went to public and two very different private Christian schools. I agree that it really depends on the school. The private schools I went to didn't have things like chemistry labs or anything so it was just book learning. And the schools that I went to didn't have advanced mathematics or opportunities to learn multiple foreign languages. It was much more disciplined but I think that there was just as much sex and drugs as in public schools---only in the private schools they knew how to hide it better. I was bored in the public schools because their curriculum wasn't advanced or varied enough. Perhaps a Catholic school would've been better---I've heard good things about them. Kids are kids; you'll still have cliques wherever you go.
When we have a child, I'd like to home school. My second choice would be a private school until 8th grade. After the 8th grade, a good public school.

Both my children are in a Christian school and have been since kindergarten. My wife and I would not have it any other way. Behavior wise, your still going to have those kids who like to cause problems, this will happen no matter where you go. However, most schools that we checked into initially have a zero tolerance policy for children who act out inappropriately. As far as the learning experience goes, you will definitely get more one on one time which is key, I think, to a good education. Most Christian schools (in Tennessee) have a maximum amount of students that they can accept for a school year which prevents overcrowding which is a major problem in public schools. My children love there school and actually want to go everyday!
Goos luck to you!!

I second that it depends very much on the school.
The fact that a school is religious is hardly a guarantee of quality, just as all public schools are not bad ones. It would be a good idea, if possible, to visit the school to get a feel for the atmosphere, and find out how many graduates go on to college, etc. Another good sign is an active alumni - people who have positive school experiences and go on to be successful and give back to the school.
Also, be sure to check out the school's science and social studies programs. Seriously, you need to make certain that standard scientific theories are taught (evolution and so on), as well as world religions (not just your own). Colleges desire a well-rounded student, unless you plan to go to Bob Jones U. or something.

Well, I went to a Catholic school for 9 years, and I'm at a public school now. There are less people, which is both a pro and a con. If there is drama between you and other people, its harder to ignore them and info travels faster. But, the kids are more controlled because it is easier to get caught. All in all, private schools are pretty controlled, and its a a definite plus that you can talk about God and religion and share your faith with others! Thats what I miss most about private schools.

I went from publis school to private school and it is soooo much better in many ways. They are more advanced than public schools so you are ahead of the games in college. The students get along more and there are not as many cliques, and the ones that there were were not unfriendly or cruel. The students there are not usually screw ups because they are comitted to learning and care. The potential for scholarships is much higher and in your future career and college, they tend to favor those who went to private schools because they know the curriculum and the expectations those schools have and those that attend are dedicated to what they do. If you have this opportunity, definitely go for it, you won't be sorry!

I went to a christian private school... You get a lot more one on one with the teachers you also learn more and its more sheltered.... I liked it!! but when I moved and switched to a public I was way ahead in my teachings than the other students... their are also a lot of stuck up people at those private schools... but to be honest if your mom has the money to spare you should give it a shot......

The environment is better, but they tend to indoctrinate you. They basically fail to teach you important scientific facts because they conflict with the bible. The kids there will treat you like crap if you are different, or "not as christian" as they are. I'd say as far as drugs, drinking, and sex are concerned, private christan school was MUCH better, but I actually got a better education in public schools. Christian school puts too much emphasis on God, and too little on Education.
No, I did not get picked on. I will probably send my kids to Christian school, but I will have to filter out the BS that they tell them, and supplement their ciriculum.
Hope that helps.

Well I was in a catholic high school, and the most absurd thing is that we TEENAGERS were allowed to smoke in school, but boys couldn't grow long hair or have piercings. Of course the cafeteria in school sold the cigarettes. It was good for business.
And a catholic school can't guarantee you a good environment or good education. I think family values are what make the difference. If you are raised good, no matter what environment you're in, you're gonna turn up well.

Ive never been to a public school.went to a christian private school all my life and hated it.Now that im a mother I would never send my children to one because..
1.I didnt learn abour "real life".Didnt get sex ed or any of those classes that are so important.
2.Spent alot of time in chapel and not enough time in normal classes.
3.The cliches there were so bad..Everyone had a status.
4.Didnt have school dances or a real prom or homecoming like other high schools
I feel like I missed out on alot
