I currently straighten my hair about once a week, but since I'm training to be a lifeguard both straightening and the chlorine does a good deal on my hair because it's pretty fine. I like to dye my hair too. When I'm not straightening my hair I usually french braid it at night so in the morning it's wavy - which means I have to brush it when it's wet, causing me to rip out hair. I don't like leaving my hair naturally; it's wavy but it's really just a mess. So I was wondering, is there anyway I could style my hair - without heat - to make it wavy? Someone I know mentioned using gel and twising my hair at night when it's wet, but I really don't know what she meant.. so any suggestions would be great!! Just in case it matters, my hair is about 2 or 3 inches below my shoulders.Thank-you!

when your hair is dry, you get gel in your hand then you start from the bottom of your hair and scrunch it there. leave it scrunched up in your hand for a couple of seconds, then let it down. this should work on fine hair.Good Luck! :)

I also have very fine hair that is naturally wavy/curly. Unfortunately whenever I let it dry natural it ends up looking fuzzy if it is brushed through or I run my fingers through it.
When I was little my mom would do what your friend mentioned and "pin" it at night. Basically you just take small sections and coil them (like you would make a bun from a big pony tail) and then use a bobby pin to secure in place. I would go to sleep with damp hair that had been pinned and wake up in the morning with adorable curly waves.
As an adult, I have used bendable curling rods to make my hair wavy... see the link in resources. I have used them two different ways, putting them in at night on damp hair and sleeping in them and putting them in after washing my hair in the morning and using a hair dryer to speed up the drying process. They sell these rods at Walmart and just about any store that has a decent hair supply.

A good moderatly priced product you can use is a line called: "Sexy Hair"
Simply spray the product in your hair (it won't weight it down) when it is damp. There are ones for curly hair, straight, wavy, etc. This product is moderatly priced. Another product is garnier surf hair. It makes it "crunchy waves." This one is much cheaper.
***If you want to french braid it, using a wide-tooth comb instead of a brush is completely "hair-ripping" safe. Haircutters use them. They take out tangles just as well for wet hair.

use gel while your hair is wet, then wring some water out with a towel. comb your hair, then put it into a bun at the back of your head.(note: do this right before you go tho bed, as you sleep your hair will dry into curls and waves.)

CONDITION - you abuse your poor hair!

after you shower smooth a little gel in wet hair twist around your finger and pin that section to your head. do this with all you hair and let is dry (or dry as much as life will allow) unpin. people also at times use small peaices of material and do "rag curls".

when all else fails smooth a little gel in and crunch it while wet
