Just be patient and don't force it! Eventually the kitty will realize that dog's not going anywhere and "allow" him to stay. :)

You just got the cat, don't expect it to be an aurtomatic thing. You should introduce them more slowly. Put the cat or dog into a crate and allow the other to sniff around it. It will give both a chance to get used to each other's scent. Remember, cats and dogs are naturally enemies so you're asking something that is out of the norm for them. It's not impossible, my black Lab and both of my cats get along perfectly fine.... now. But I had to introduce them properly and allow them to adjust at their own pace. Don't force it or you could make it worse.

It will probably take quite a while for them to get used to one another.

I am assuming that these two have become roommates recently.

I recommend keeping them in separate rooms, and taking a blanket or pet bed back and forth between them. That way, they can get used to one another's smells. That will go a long way in helping them get over the initial fear.

After several days of this, put them in rooms where they can see one another, but can't get TO one another. (Adjoining rooms with a baby gate between them, perhaps...) This will help the them get used to the SIGHT of one another. After a few days of THAT, try introducing them in the same room for a few minutes at a time. Take the cat in to see the dog while the dog is SLEEPING. Hold the cat and reassure him that the dog is really a friend. He's just scared of the *big* guy with *big* teeth. Eventually, move on to doing this while the dog is awake, too.

It will take a while. Be patient!

If the dog doesn't bother the cat, they might get along in time. Your cat is probably hissing out of fear. After a while the cat should notice that he doesn't need to worry about the dog. Also, make sure you don't try to put one by the other. They can get used to each other on their own.

ive 2 examples for you. a million.my first cat had under no circumstances seen a rabbit and a neighbours rabbit have been given into our backyard. the cat began to stalk the rabbit, while it have been given close to the rabbit leapt interior the air and kung foo form kicked the catacrosss the backyard!!! 2. i now have 2 new cats and an previous rabbit. between the cats likes the rabbit, under no circumstances chases her and likes to twist up next to her on a blanket. The rabbit for the main section ignores him or each so often lunges to tell him to back off, yet ive under no circumstances had a undertaking with them and could have confidence tat cat one hundred% around the rabbit. the different cat whether is a super hunter and started stalking the rabbit, after some weeks of me telling the cat off or shooing him away he seems to settle for that the rabbit is a no chase zone. iwouldn'tt whether have confidence him on my own along with her. isupposee what im asserting is they are all distinctive, maximum rabbits can carry their very own against a cat yet you do would desire to evaluate the dimensions and temperament of each animal.

Honestly, you can introduce all you want. Your best bet is to let them be. they will learn nether poses a threat and eventually get along. My Lab was the same with the Kittens of all things. Even now, she will jump over them, but she doesn't run anymore. It has been 4 weeks. the vet told me they will work it out on their own.

They're probably just feeling eachother out. They'll get over it. They may not become best pals, but they learn to tolerate eachother.
