What freedom? If you honestly think they are free now....
Yeah. They can speak out against some puppet put in power. But they cant speak out against Al Sadr - the real person in control of Iraq. If they do they will suffer the same fate had they spoke out against Saddam. They cant walk the streets without worrying about getting murdered, they cant send their kids to school, they cant go to work because there is no work.
Some freedoms.

I think that a lot of Iraqi's would love the be able to enjoy the freedoms that are supposedly theirs. By the way, we don't "bestow" freedoms on anyone, they voted for a constitution that defends freedoms that they have as people. But back to the question, I agree with the previous answers that they are too busy trying not to be killed while they try to find a way to feed their children to worry about whether they can write a letter to the editor. And if I were an Iraqi, I would be nice to the people with the biggest guns and the most resources no matter what I might think of their presence at my doorstep.

What freedom has been bestowed upon them? They still can't be safe in their own homes. ( In fact, in some ways they were safer before --at least then they knew who the enemy was) They still don't have reliable electricity or clean water. The majority of them do not have a job.

What have we really done for them? OH yeah!! The election ---well, that government cannot do the job they need to do without our help.

Instead of sending troops, we need to open schools, repair electric plants and water plants --and train Iraqi police and soldiers. We need to provide jobs to the Iraqis instead of bringing American contractors over there and paying them huge sums of money to NOT do the job they are hired to do.

If the Iraqi people had the contracts to do those things, they would have a reason to make sure some insurgents don't come along and bomb all the good work.

I'm sure they're delighted. They have lots of idle hours, now that almost everyone is unemployed, to thrill over all their freedom. Of course, sharing their happiness with family members has become a wee bit difficult since families have down-sized. And the joy at getting new infrastructure! How blissful it must be!

Iraqis believe that:

1). Life was better and more secure under Hussein’s control than America’s;
2). It is OK to attack and kill US soldiers; and
3). They want America out of their country.

So, in general, it does not seem that they are very appreciative.

And, Afghans feel the same way.

Those people are smack dab in the middle of a civil war. They're probably too busy to appreciate all that fabulous so called freedom.

I think that most do, but many are afraid to say so. If we leave, they don't want to be on record as supporting the United States.
