how to stop being emo? (goths are not the same!)

don't dye your hair black. perhaps even wash it. get your bangs cut evenly

wear clothes that fit properly, guys, that means no more borrowing your little sisters clothes

buy sneakers instead of those shoes you crazies wear

quit crying about small stuff - there are much worse things in the world than can possibly happen to you

listen to some real music - may i interest you in late 80s, early 90s alternative?

boys, stop making out with each other (unless there are other reasons you make out with other boys. if you are genuinely gay, or left handed or something, that's fine). girls, you may continue.

Emos are not goths.
Emos who call themselves goths are an insult to gothic culture.
(I believe it is because people assume that anyone who wears black is a goth..which is not true of course, and vice versa.)

And its not something you just quit. You are obviously having some trouble finding who you are. If you think emo is what you truly are, then i see no reason for you to quit. And if you are not emo, then what's there to quit?

Just take some time to yourself and think it over. Wanting to stop being something is just like wanting to start being something else. You've got to ask yourself what are the reasons why you're thinking of changing, and if it will make life any better for you.
An example: Many people who have previously been a little more drawn back from the rest, finally get tired of it and want to try something different because secretly they are jealous of those with more friends. And sure, being popular and wearing abercrombie might sound like it will make your life better, and it might, but it just depends on how you feel about it inside.
What I'm saying is, don't do it for the wrong reasons (like just wanting to fit in).

Bottom Line : Just be yourself. Respect yourself. Dont stereotype yourself either, that only makes you want to fit in with that certain stereotype even more, causing you to stray away from your personal beliefs and personality.
Clear it all from your mind, and if someone asks you "what you are", you can calmly reply that you are just yourself. No stereotypes, no nothing. Just you, whoever you are.

Start with a smile. Then start discovering the world around you. The impression I get is that emos and goths are self-centered, without having a well-centered sense of self. Find a way to help out in your family or community so that you're doing things for other people. You'll then realize that the world is not just you, and therefore not a lonely place to be.

You can't. All the trendy words that our sad culture has developed to lump us into to definable things can't change the fact that you are a gentle and tender soul living in a violent and treacherous world full of the ignorant self righteous fools who claim to know how to define how things should be.

I am no "believer" but I do believe in the teachings of a man who taught kindness and compassion, so quoted and yet so lost in this time. My heart goes out to you, this is not a good time for the tender heart, there really may have never been, we can only hope there may be.

Just stop. Just stop wearing the makeup and put your hair in a regular ponytail and just see where life takes you. You don't need a label - you are unique and you are young enough that you can just change. That's exciting - the start of a new chapter in your life.

Interestingly, we recently had a ceremony for my sister and me as we enter a new chapter in our lives - she moving out on her own and me a parent. Maybe something like that would appeal to you. I found a lot of formats and ideas by searching Yahoo for: coming of age ceremonies

Peace!

You need to find peace with your problems. Stop wearing black and get a hobby, and meet some friends that arent emos or gothics.
