Not long ago, it was common for young people to marry young people. It was never before "common" for old men to marry children, but Islam ushered in a new age.

Islamic Bukari:

“the prophet married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old” http://www.islamicity.com/mosque/sunnah/bukhari/062.sbt.html#007.062.064

Muslims try to explain that Aisha's parents consented, like a merchant consents to selling goods. I wonder however if this is really true, after all, Muhammad was a powerful warlord, with many soliders. He lead twenty six separate battle of war. So, how's Aisha's parents going to do anything else but give her up?

I would have CONSENTED!

It would have been DEATH not to.

"If they reject your judgment, know that it is Allah's wish to scourge
them for their sins." - Sura 5:49

Pretty Obvious if one reads the Unholy Quaran!

Your "question" is anachronistic. The values and practices of that time were very different from those of day.

Muhammad was not a "warlord". The warfare that the Muslims community engaged in was solely defensive. The innocent had to be protected and justice established.

Contrary to popular belief, Muhammad exalted the station of women at the time. Women were considered "property" before the advent of Islam, but the Qur'an gives women specific rights and property. Marriage was consentual and not forced. I'm certain that Muhammad only married with the best interests of others in mind. Muhammad was a genuinely nice and kind individual who looked after other people's interests above His own.

The quote that whynotaskdon gives says that God should scourge those who disobey the Prophet. It does not say that the Prophet should scourge them. Your question supposes that Islam was cruel, when in fact the opposite is true. Before Muhammad's time life was full of injustice and tyranny. During Muhammad's time, everyone could be assured of justice and had no fear. It was a society based on the love of God.

So what your claiming is Aisha was forced into marriage because her parents out of fear gave her to the Prophet (pbuh) - and that what he did was abuse

I have some questions
1) Why did Aisha love the Prophet then ? how many women love their abusers?

2) Why was Aisha's father Abu bakr the prophets closest companion until his death -protecting him from his enemies ? how many men do that for a man who they think has stolen tehir daughter

3) Why did none of the Arabian pagans who attacked and vilified the prophet in every other way condemn his marriage to Aisha ditto Christians until very recently ?

That was when they were migrating to Madinah. Just a small group of Muslims...not much of a "warlord"
