There are currently two dogs in house: 1 wiener dog and one Doberman. Smell is not of dog urine or feces per se but rather of ... "dog"

Any help is much appreciated as this is the only thing that prevents us from making an offer on the house!

You can try cleaning the house thoroughly - shampooing the carpets, scrubbing base boards, tile, walls, etc. The carpet is the biggest place the smell will be and most of the smell will leave when the furniture and other belongings of the current owners is gone. Air the house for a day or so before moving your stuff in and deep clean beforehand as well. This will keep the smell from penetrating your stuff. It's not too hard as long as it's not urine. Urine is easy to remove with Urine Gone though. If you really like the house, make an offer but you can also ask them to shampoo the carpet before you move in. Worth a shot!

As long as it's not urine or feces, you won't have too much trouble getting rid of the smell. The current owners will be taking all of their furniture, which I'll bet is a major contributer to the odor. Wash the curtains (if they stay), open all the windows for a few days, and have the carpets professionally cleaned. That's it.

Dog odor isn't something that soaks into the walls or woodwork. You'll be fine. Use it as a bargaining tool.

Hi,
First, get rid of the dogs. Next, if the floors are hard wood or vinyl you can clean them with vinegar & water. Use a mop & bucket, being generouse with the vinegar. Some use bleach & water, be carefull not to mess up the finish if there is one. On carpet, there are products at the pet stores for this however you might be out of luck. Carpet & padding are tough to get oders out of.
When & if you make an offer, you can ask for a few K more off the price as compensation. You can also make your offer pendding getting rid of the smell and put the burden on the seller. If they can't get rid of the odors to your satisfaction you do not have to purchase. Good luck.

I know the smell. yuk.! You can buy, I don't know if you can rent, an OZONE generator. It is not a good idea to remain in the house while it is operating. Read the instructions put it in the house ,with a fan to circulate it around the house, while you are at work. When you return home open the windows for a few minutes, to air it out..It has the same effect as a thunder storm. It makes things smell real clean.

I have to agree with love my lab. I would however call in a professional to have the carpets cleaned. I love my dog but when he comes in wet....he smells like wet dog. Wall cleaning or even painting is great. Get rid of their furnature if possiable or have it cleaned as well. This will also keep your pets from "spraying". Fabreeze is also a great way afterwards to help control the problem. If it persists, you may need more professional cleaning help.

If this is one thing keeping you from making an offer, talk to the owners about cleaning first. Have them have the house cleaned. Talk to the realestate agent. They probably know the problem. If you make an offer, offer less knowing the clean up costs and LET THEM KNOW. People aren't stupid. They know it smells like dog. tell them. They will probably work with you.

Good luck.

There are two possible reasons for the odor... one is from the liquid musk from the dog's rear (my dachshund's gland has to be cleaned once a week) and the other is just from the dogs' scent glands.

The musk odor is very hard to get rid of, but it can be done with professional products. There are sprays that can be used on fabrics and surfaces.

The other smells can be removed by a good professional cleaning.

good luck with your new house!

If the smell is not urine or feces, cleaning the carpets and changing the air filter on the furnace and/or air conditioner ought to do it. Worst case scenario, you'd replace the carpets. But it's probably the current owner's furniture that smells the worst, and they'll be taking it with them when they leave.

I would have someone professional come in and clean the carpets (put it in with your offer to have them do it after they've moved out) and clean everything else really good and it should go away. I also agree that once all the furniture is gone it won't smell quite as bad.

search for suggestion from with the vendors, yet i imagine a lot of their canines smell is of their furniture and property, which will go away even as they go away. you'll likely favor to have the carpets wiped clean earlier you bypass in in case you do not replace them which may safeguard the canines smell there, fairly in case you enable the carpet cleanser understand you worry about domestic dog smell. He/she will be able to attend to with a neutralizer even as the carpets are wiped clean. you may want to favor to ask for a carpet allowance for cleansing or replacing once you're making your furnish, yet i does not hesitate to make an furnish in case you intend on doing one or the different besides.
