I've used peroxide on my ears many times. It will clean up the infection. Don't use alcohol as it will burn on a "fresh wound" which it is.
Peroxide only gives a mild tingly kind of sting.
Dip a Qtip in peroxide and soak the area and clean it with the Qtip. Repeat with a clean Qtip on both sides. Don't wear earrings until it's all cleared up, unless they are newly pierced, then just rotate the earrings and clean them daily.
Always try to wear good gold or silver earrings...one day of cheap earrings and my ears blow up like a balloon.
If you've recently pierced your ears, now is a good time to switch over to a good gold pair and wear them for the 3-6 months they recommend. Always buy the best studs when getting your ears pierced and avoid the infections. You will get cysts otherwise that stay with you a lifetime!!!!

First off, DO NOT use alcohol or peroxide. These are TOPICAL anitseptics. It will tell you right on the labels that these are not to be used in open or puncture wounds, which is what piercings are. These fluids will dry out and kill the live healing tissue.
Second, DO NOT remove the jewelry. Having the jewelry in allows the piercing to drain. Taking the jewelry out can seal the infection in, casuing an abcess that may have to be cut out by a doctor.
Are you sure it is infected? If it is infected, you will know as it will be hot to the touch and drain a yellowish or greenish sticky pus. If it is doing this, it is infected. If its clear fluid coming out and its still swollen, you may be having a reaction to the jewelry. Many people have metal sensitivity. Nickel in low grade steel, gold and silver are notorious for causing flare-ups in fresh piercings. If you find it isn't infected, try going to a piercing studio and getting some titanium jewelry. Titanium is implant grade and highly bio-compatable.
Try soaking it twice daily in a solution of NON-IODIZED SEA SALT. The solution should be 1/4 teaspoon in 8 ounces of water. Not scalding hot, but very warm. This will help draw out the infection, as salt is a natural astringent.
If the infection doesn't clear up within a couple of days, you might want to see a doctor.

I feel that "Needy" gave a good answer. But I would add, leave the stud/earring out till it heals.
I would consider getting a good pair that has real metal post like gold or silver. As for alcohol, I use only "wood grain" alcohol which you can get from the liquor store. It still burns but is more effective. It is what the use in the hospitals and in cough medicines.
I also dip the post in alcohol each time before putting them in.

Use the peroxide. No alcohol, it actually kills some of the good bacteria too slowing up the healing process.
