Normally you will be contacted and told where the vehicle is located. If the vehicle is insured, contact your insurance company and they will take it from there - Either getting moved to a repair facility or letting you know if it is a total loss.
If you are not insured, try to get to the storage facility as soon as possible to get it released. The tow yards are independent and charge daily storage fees, in addition to any actual tow charges.
If your insurance company already settled with you for the vehicle, the insurance company is suppose to be notified or the recovery, because once the insurance company has paid you, they actually own the vehicle/salvage.
The police will not have anything additional to do with the vehicle (once they have dusted it for fingerprints, that is)

The time my SUV was stolen and recovered they called my right away. They towed it to a secure lot by the station. They had me present ID and sign some form/s in order to release it. I wasn't charged any towing fee. My insurance did pay for towing from the lot to the repair shop becuase the perp had trashed the ignition part of the steering column.

They tow it to a secure location...(police pound)......then inventory the vehicles contents.......complete all the reports and the paperwork..........notify the agency that entered it in NCIC that it's been recovered..........notify the owner that the vehicle has been recovered.......and secure the vehicle.

PS...You do not have to wait till the case is over to recover your vehicle. If that were true.....imagine what your storage charges would be??? But Jackie is correct.....get it outa there ASAP.....so the fees won't bankrupt ya.

The police will have your vehicle towed to their impound lot. Your vehicle will be taken out of the NCIC system. They will notify you and let you know it was recovered and where you can pick it up at. You will be responsible for the tow fee.

Wait til the case is over. After we go through it, it will be released to the registered owner. If they have been advsd to pick it up, usually after a certain amount of time (i.e. 30 days, etc) it will be put up for auction.

It is impounded and sent to the impound lot for you to pick up.
they would do a basic report and at times do some fingerprint work ( but not always)
