IQ is strange at measuring intelligence in that it basically test for how much information you can gather in a given time. That is why they ask for you age. average IQ is 90 to 110. A college professor of mine claimed that a person needed IQ of 115 to 125 to get a college degree 130 for a masters and 135 for a doctorate. Her point was given to express that if you had "x" amount of time to study. However, she claimed that if you studied hard and long that you could lower the IQ needed to do those things because the only thing holding things back was the time needed to learn and understand. That is why being a medical doctor is so difficult. They throw so much information at you that your "quotient" must be high to get all the information in your head in a short amount of time. I wouldn't want to go to a doctor that took 22 years to get out of med school. The Important thing is DONT LET YOUR IQ be a deterrent to what you want to accomplish. Also dont spend the money to get your 15 page report. Also your IQ can change 5 to 10 points depending on the test and your frame of mind when you take it.

Here's a few pieces of info.

1. Your IQ score will not generally change much with age. If your IQ is 117 now, it will most likely be about 117 when you are 50 years old. People don't gradually become geniuses over time. A genius at 10 will be a genius at 50; a moron at 10 will be a moron at 50.

2. A 117 IQ score is pretty good. The "average" of the stanford-binet IQ test was designed to be 100 with a standard deviation of 16 (I believe.) So the 117 IQ score is one full standard deviation ABOVE average.

3. The online IQ test you took is almost meaningless. If you want to know your IQ you need to take a real, offical, timed test that is administered by a proctor. The online ones usually err on the side of generosity (because they WANT you to buy the full report.)

It is borderline average for your age. Make sure you attend all your classes at school.

Just an add on:
Your IQ will change as you mature and this only makes sense. It could go down because of a lack of using your mental functions, i.e. a person that became a truck driver would "probably" score lower than if he had been able to pursue a more cerebral occupation like an Engineer, Professor etc. A child who is attending school is more likely to score well than an adult who has been in a repetitive job and life style for a couple of decades. IQ tests are really not a measurement of "intelligence" even though many people that score well want you to believe that. I was not being smart alec telling you that you were borderline. You are on the edge of borderline normal and above average; however, with the no child left behind and the infusion of many uneducated aliens into our society the normal is constantly going down. Try hard in school if you truly want to be above normal. Concentrate on the things that don't come easy for you, not the ones that do. I am 54 and have been tested on numerous occasions from the military, academic programs and even "Mensa" tests. I have scored between 129 and 163 and do not feel superior to anyone. I have turned down the Mensa group as I feel that they are a boring, puffed up lot that do more harm than good. Just my opinion and no offense to anyone but IQ tests are a bunch of hogwash unless they are used in a medical environment to aid those that are truly deficient.

Your IQ won't change with age. If the test is a professional test, it will take your age into consideration. Mental retardation is 85 and genius is 144 (these numbers will change a little depending on the scale of the test you're taking) So, take your 117 and which number are you closer to? The 85 or the 144? Looks to me like you're pretty much right in the middle, so my answer would be that your score is average.
