What is your natural color? Hair dye's use ammonia and are used to lift a little color or add color. I am assuming you want to bleach, unless you are only a level or so from the color you want to achieve. Nice and Easy color is reliable and easy to understand. Although I don't recommend it you can get some over the counter bleaches but I don't know which to suggest. But, the bleach will make your hair look lighter than it is as the bleach will be a white paste, so be sure to achieve the color you really want and not a brassy yellow color before you wash it out. Keep in mind that the bigger the difference is between your natural color and the color you want, the longer you will have to leave the product on which enhances damage and the more often you will have to retouch, which is a whole other process. I have mostly gray hair and at 30ish, I am not ready for that and I color my hair to my (what was natural) color, which is dark brown and I have new growth in a little over a week! It is a lot to maintain! Good luck.

The best way to die your hair is always in a professional hair salon, that way you avoid mistakes or bad coloring. But if it's too expensive or you want to do it at home Herbal Essences is the best brand to use. Make sure that it's the color you really want first. And remember: the models on the boxes did NOT use that die. It's just the color that it's *supposed* to end up as.

Don't do this yourself.
I have learned that messing around with hair color, especially doing something drastic, is best done by professionals.
I have spent hundreds getting screw-ups fixed.

I wouldn't advise dying your hair totally blonde. I dyed mine blonde at the beginning of LAST YEAR (2006). I've dyed it back to my natural color (red), and brown. And I STILL have blonde in it til this day!

Go to a salon. It is more expensive but it is so much better. But...when I did mine at home years ago I used Loreal.
