It would be better to weild an M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tank. The closest thing, however when heading up the C12th Army, would be the battleaxe. It would produce more of the Shock and Awe effect.

now if its sword and shield, that is alright, ish...... battleaxe is for mroe a berserker style, if you stop swinging you die, and just a sword, assuming its a nice sized 2 edged sword, is prolly the best for most people, as long as they can swing it, they can parry alot easier with a sword than an axe, and no burden of a shield, and if its a war im assuming that there will be alot of people, so etheir way if you are on the front lines,a nd you arent badass, you're dead, so im guessing if you were there and you were badass, and gona live you would alraedy have a prefrence so why are you asking?

Sword. Swinging a battleaxe from horseback is a quick demotion from cavalry to infrantry
(because you will fall off the horse. The Axe is too heavy for horse work.)

Depends. If you know how to use it a sword is more effective (it has a point as well as edges). An axe is easier to damage with little skill.
