At 40% alcohol 60% water standard vodka isn't very flammable. Generally it needs to be warmed up slightly or have a flame held to it before it will light on fire.
Ethanol requires oxygen to burn, the skinny neck of most bottles are too small to draw in enough oxygen. If it lit it would flame then go out. Higher proof alcohols might shoot a jet of fire out the top (especially if low) but it will last only a second and wont explode.

The fumes from the burning alcohol aren't that nice, I wouldn't waste bottles of alcohol trying it.

Here's a cool thing to do when you are almost finished with your bottle of vodka (or other hard liquor) and there is only a little bit left at the bottom. put the cap on and roll the liquor around the sides of the bottle. Then open the cap and quickly throw a match in. It will make a woooooooooooosh sound. As the alcohol vapor burns, it creates a vacuum in the bottle and sucks air which makes the burning get louder. After about a second it will burn out.

Better yet, do it with the lights out and you'll see a cool blue flame inside.

I've never done that with more than an ounce or so of liquor and you're on your own if you try it.

First of all I have to say why would you want to ruin a perfectly fine bottle of vodka!!! Lol. Personally I wouldn't try it, besides wasting good booze (it's not cheap you know), you could end up hurting yourself or someone else. No one needs that on their concious. I say drink the vodka and keep the matches for more constructive use.

Alcohol doesn't explode the way that gasoline does, it ignites and burns. If you dropped a match into a bottle of vodka, it would probably die out due to a lack of oxygen. High proof spirits will burn, but they don't detonate.

I am not sure about "explode" part but i know it is flammable. Vodka is usually about 80proof which is about 40% of Alchol. Suggestion: don't mix matches with alchol.

i think it depends on the proof of the alcohol. for example bacardi 151 is so flammable that you cant smoke while you drink it or it will light your mouth on fire because it is 151 proof. most liqours are mainly 80 proof
