Phentermine is a substituted phenethylamine, more importantly a derivative of amphetamine, primarily used as an appetite suppressant. An Amphetamine is a Stimulant. Stimulants are drugs that increase alertness and wakefulness. An Appetite Suppressant is a drug that looses an appetite.
