I have don't mean any disrespect to the Islamic religion. I just want to know why it could be considered a religion of peace?

No offense, why is Christianity considered a religion of peace? The answer is because the religious extremists don't represent the religion. Same goes with Islam.

The Islamic religion, just like other religions can be translated into different meanings. All religions teach of peace. But then you get extremist that break away from the truth and create commandments and rules that cater to themselves to justify what they are doing is right. That's why you have 1000's of religions starting up every week. They take the true answers and twist it into something that can justify actions rather than changing yourself to adhere to the truth.

First of all, 'Allah' just means god in Arabic. Not a 'moon-god' or anything. (I have no idea how people make up these things)

Secondly, most parts of Islam are all peaceful, it's just the extremists that get all the attention from the press and media that do violence.

And finally, I just don't get it. Before, blacks were treated the same way, with disgust and hatred. Then, segregation was ended, and now people are making fun of Muslims...for no reason. All they show are extremists on TV, and there are extremists of all religions. *sigh* Who knows, maybe next, people will start hating cream-cheese lovers or something...

Like Christianity there are many different "denominations" of Islam. Most of them actually are all about just being peaceful and live and let live.

It's just the violent "denominations" that get all the media attention. You know, the whole "if it bleeds, it leads" thing.

Death for apostasy:
Sura 4:89 They long that ye should disbelieve even as they disbelieve, that ye may be upon a level (with them). So choose not friends from them till they forsake their homes in the way of Allah; if they turn back (to enmity) then take them and kill them wherever ye find them, and choose no friend nor helper from among them,”

Kill Disbelievers in a creul fashion:
Sura 5:33: "Those who make war with Allah and his messenger will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, or will be expelled out of the land. That is how they will be treated in this world, and in the next they will have an awful doom."

Slit throats of unbelievers:
Quran Sura 47:4: Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks; At length, when ye have thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly (on them): thereafter (is the time for) either generosity or ransom: Until the war lays down its burdens. Thus (are ye commanded): but if it had been Allah's Will, He could certainly have exacted retribution from them (Himself); but (He lets you fight) in order to test you, some with others. But those who are slain in the Way of Allah,- He will never let their deeds be lost.

Amputation for petty theft:
Quran Sura 5:38: Cut off the hands of thieves, whether they are male or female, as punishment for what they have done—a deterrent from God: God is almighty and wise.

Dont be friends with Jew or Christians:
Sura 5:51: O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust.

Permission to beating your wife if she doesnt listen to you:
Sura 4:34: “Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in their sleeping places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great.”
