The first such place I ever saw was a gigantic brick building called the "Church of the Open Door." During my journey through religion (which ended with my confirmed apostasy) I attended one this church's services. It consisted of 15 minutes of praising their god and 45 minutes of begging for money. I walked out before the service was over, and dubbed the place the "Church of the Open Wallet." In the ensuing years, they have built a school (and their teams are called the "Patriots." Got to love that arrogance), a housing development and a day care center (open only to their own people of course). The rich religious have always had contempt for the poor. It shows in their support of Republican presidents who cut programs which help the less fortunate.

because there are churches like the Crystal Cathedral, that does not mean that they are the only churches that properly worship God. How do you know that God prefers rich white people over the poor? Giving money to the poor can be done in the name of Jesus. What I am not saying is that Crystal Cathedral is right or wrong, but what I am saying you see the church on tv on you think that God is pleased with churches like that. I attend a small church, that feeds the homeless once a month, and visits an orphanage in mexico. I am not saying this to receive glory, God only gets that, however I am saying, because you do not see the churches that really do things that please God, does not mean they do not exist, IT is not required to worship in multi-million dollar buildings- God looks at the heart of the people. I am sure there are pure worshipers at Crystal and also some that arent. Just the same at any sized church. Jesus was not born in a mansion- but a manger.

The Crystal Cathedral is first of all, a structure built to give honor and glory to God, and it's open to the public, rich and poor alike.
It is also a structure that stimulates the imagination and that demands the attention of just about everyone, rich and poor, Christian or not.
And once we have their attention, we just might be able to slip a little Gospel in, and even make a few converts, whose value to both God and man, is inestimable.
It was built with private funds, for that express purpose, and while you have a right to your opinion, you're missing the whole point.
People all over the world take time out to watch the services from there on TV, mainly because they're initially fascinated with the structure of the Cathedral itself.
That's "the hook" ... and everybody in the television business understands how important it is to do something unique in order to get the attention of your potential viewers.
Jesus explained (to Judas, no less) that the poor will always be with us, and sometimes it's a good idea to spend a few bucks on something just for God.
Otherwise the world would be a pretty depressing place ... for everyone.
Lighten up, Judas!

Jesus came as a poor person, He was born in a barn, He had no home. He laid His glory aside in Heaven to come to earth as a poor person, Just because some Churches are large and rich people go there doesn't mean that they don't love God and treat folks well. You are judging. Those people probably give to the Church, as well as help the poor. You give money to your local bar or sports centre, so don't criticize Christians who prefer to support their Church.

Calm down, God deserves a beautiful place to be worshiped in, but he doesn't require it. If a group of people have the money to build a beautiful edifice to worship in, why not? Most large churches donate large sums to the poor.

What is unusual about a lot of money spent on churches? Hell, it's a christian tradition!
Are there none of the megachurches near you? With basketball courts, cafe's, baseball fields, etc.?

particularly , that often seeed to be the case, when you consider that in the previous, the wealthy and useful catholic church owned each and every thing. seems god purely likes wealthy people people who're already chuffed.
