Well it depends. If you're looking to lose weight, then you would have to lose the weight you want, and then tone your belly muscles. If you don't then all the fat will turn to muscle and you won't lose weight. But you want to start out small. Always stretch first. Then you can do three different sit ups. Sit up on your back, on your left side, and on your right side. That way you get all your ab muscles. Lye down on an excersize mat. Put both legs up in the air and together. Then do crunches while keeping your legs up.

Cardiovascular exercise. Crunches and sit ups won't make you lose fat in your stomach. It will tone the muscles underneath the fat but until you do cardio (running, bike riding, aerobics, etc), you will not get rid of belly fat and you won't be able to see the muscles under your fat.

Sit ups and crunches. Start out with 25 a day, work up to 50, then 100.
