Sometimes when I bend over, or even just close my eyes while standing, I become extremely dizzy and stumble around. It's not quite extreme as vertigo, but I keep losing my balance and I have become quite tired. Somebody told my mother it might be an inner ear infection. Any ideas?

Hi, I'm an Audiologist

Yes, the imbalance you describe may be caused by some form of inner ear dysfunction (not necessarily an infection). Do you lose your balance EVERY time you close your eyes, or only occasionally or only following movement? Are there any other symptoms -- even ones that don't seem related?

Dizziness associated with head movement (positional vertigo) may be treated through certain exercises, but you first need an accurate diagnosis.

The only way to rule-out an inner ear disorder is to consult an Ear Nose and Throat specialist (ENT or otolaryngologist) for an evaluation. Testing should include an audiological evaluation of your hearing (as many inner ear disorder effect hearing AND balance) and an Electronystagmography (ENG) or Videonystagmography (VNG) evaluation of you vestibular system.

Other possible causes have been mentioned: inadequate nutrition, hydration or even sleep; high/low blood pressure; high/low blood sugar (hyper/hypo-glycemia); disorders of the central nervous system from disease or injury to head/neck/spine; migraines (with OR without headaches); many medications cause imbalance and dizziness; etc. As you can see, dizziness is a rather vague symptom, like a headache or fever.

It's a matter of mind. Could be depression but that's a mental thing too. You can change that. Change your perspective. Join after school activities. Find something you enjoy doing. Try writing music. Make personal goals to get better grades or to talk to the specific guy you like. Give your life something more to look forward to. Just smiling, or listening to happier music (I'm yours - Jason Mraz) can make you happier and it's inspirational. Comedy is a cure for depression theres been studies on it. Change your life a bit, I think your just bored with life. do something exciting. Hope I helped.

It could be an inner or middle ear problem, infections usually hurt though and feel like pressure, and your hearing is different like echo sounding. It might be just fluid in the ear if you had a cold or virus recently. It might even be something totally different like anemia which causes tiredness and dizzyness. Thyroid problems, diabetes are other illnessess that cause the tired, dizzy feeling, you really should get a check up.

An inner ear infection could trow you off balance..and as someone who has experience in the field of medicine..that just might be it. But it could also be your Blood pressure. Go to your doctor and get a checkup, and tackle that problem as soon as you can. Good luck, Ronijn

How old are you? It is common for teenage girls to get dizzy spells and they don't usually mean anything is wrong. I doubt it is an inner ear infection as they are usually very painful, although you could have something else wrong with your inner ear. You say you feel tired, have you thought about anaemia? That's when you don't have enough iron in your blood. It can make you tired and dizzy. If you look in the mirror and pull your lower eyelids down, they should be very pink. If they look pale, anaemia could be your problem, and you should try iron supplements or eating more foods with iron in, such as spinach. You should probably see a doctor though!

Adrenal fatigue could be the problem.
Vitamin C is good for the adrenal glands.
The b vitamins in a multivitamin will help with stress.
Read Steven Hotze's book, "Health, Hormones, and
Happiness." He has a section on adrenal fatigue.
I take Cortef 2.5mg (bioidentical Cortisol) 2 to 4 times a day.
Cortisol is a stress hormone made in the adrenal glands. Taking the Cortef gives my adrenal glands less to do.
It is very hard to find a doctor that will know anything
about adrenal fatigue.

Some people have this, I am not sure what it is called but it has to do mainly with lack of nutrition and liquids in the body. Your brain isn't very well nurished and consequently is sort of tired/sleepy. Also, when you sit down and stand up real fast you black out sort of?... Yeah try eating healthier for a few days and see if you feel better.

it happens to me when iam in the shopping with too many noises and strong lights i feel dizzy at the end of day or during, i got low blood pressure sometimes, it can be either ear infection that causes the imbalance or the blood pressure, or stress, or after a meal that affects the sugar in ur blood, in all cases could u please see a doctor, he will check and see the problem(sometimes if the ear is infected there is scratch in the outer ear, which indicates infection inside, like dry and bleeding little from outside
