No. Iran is a "democracy." A 12th century theocracy would never attempt such a sham, but be a blatant, in-your-face oligarchy.
21st century warfare? Not really. Apparently democratic 21st century warfare isn't terribly effective. Guerrilla tactics are really pre-1st c. tactics developed at least as early as "The Art of War." US strategists are finally realizing that taking a 18th century British attitude towards war isn't very effective - a testament to how enabling our society has come to allow the inept to rise to power. I will grant you that the only 21st century thing about current wars is the possibility of including new physical technology. Very little seems to have advanced in terms of strategy and psychological tactics. The war is penny smart and pound stupid and the insurgents know it. I recognized their strategy from a very successful similar strategy I read in a book about one of my ancestors. The first successful raid on a supposedly "secured" ammo dump was very telling about who was eventually going to be "on top" in this war. US troop movements have become a tool of the enemy in many ways, which is why the situation keeps deteriorating.
On the other hand, I have no interest in aiding a war I opposed from the very start. Its promotion was insolent and stupid. Nor will I happily serve a leader that seems less intelligent than myself that also seems capable of sacrificing my life for selfish gain. No. This war goes where it deserves to go. America, you've EARNED this.

Yep. Maybe we should throw a few 20th Century nukes into the equation just for the hell of it.
It'd sure stop a lot of the nonsense.

Yep. All those christian soldiers on a crusade against the 'infidels', but armed with machine guns and laser-guided missiles. You're definitely right.
