The ACLU exists to protect the individual citizen from the government abrogating his or her rights and liberties.

Of COURSE that's good for America.

it's a very sad thing that so many people have been hoodwinked about the ACLU - I've posted, on a number or questions, links to the cases that the ACLU has taken on to defend the religious free expression of Christians, for example (and there are a LOT of them), but there are preachers and other folks with an agenda who want people to believe that the ACLU is anti-Christian.

~sigh~

No, let me amend that. They want the sheeple to belive that. And a lot do, becuase they don't go look at the ACLU record.

The ACLU is a VERY bad thing for America. Their main agenda is to silence Christianity.

Example
Last year there was a Christmas display and they wanted the Christian parts of the display removed. There were also Islam displays at the same location. When asked if this wouldn't be against sepration of church and state also, their reply was " Probably, but we aren't concerned with that one."

I believe the ACLU caused 80% or more of the problems that are caused to religion in this country.

You see, every is entitled to free speech EXCEPT Christians

I think the ACLU is good for America because, like it or not the operate within the guidelines of the constitution. They seem to be another part of the system of checks and balances. I do not agree with them much of the time, but I appreciate their work.

The ACLU have a bad rap. The media loves to drag them into stories because because they are a buzzword.
Sometimes they seem extreme, true, but extreme people cannot be denied due process unless they are obviously criminals.
The ranks of the ACLU includes many clergy, and many of their cases are for church rights.
I'd imagine there are ACLU members who would lve nothing more than to be able to back off from the more extreme cases.
Give 'em a break. It may be your rights they fight for next.

The ACLU promotes a type of secular atheism, peppered with liberal Jewish overtones, that is not only bad for our country, it's bad for the whole world.

The ACLU would be much more at home in a country based on atheistic communism, than in these United States.

And if the ACLU (and its' supporters) continue to get their way, that's exactly what the U.S. will someday become.

If you did your research on them you would find that they aren't worth anything. They are NOT here to DEFEND peoples rights, they are here to destroy AMERICA. Some of the high ranking members of the ACLU were originally high ranking officials of the American COMMUNIST Party, they went with the ACLU. Their statement was they were going to take over America without firing a shot.
I know you didn't want cut and paste, but here are some links.
How many Christian or other HONEST groups that try to do good have they DEFENDED? I haven't seen or heard of very many if any at all.

One example I know of was a school was allowing almost every group they had to install showcases for their groups, including other Religious groups, but when a Christian group that wanted to put Bibles and other items showing their beliefs, the ACLU stepped in and fought against them. Now how is that DEFENDING OUR RIGHTS. It is OK for everybody else but NOT Christian? Another group asked them for help to have their rights enforced, the ACLU started to take the case but as soon as they found it was a Christian group they refused to defend them. How is that DE#FENDING OUR RIGHTS. If you want EQUALITY then GIVE EQUALITY TO ALL NOT JUST SELECT GROUPS. Anybody that doesn't believe me type ACLU into your search engine and check their history. They haven't changed their goal yet.

They are low enough to walk under a snakes belly without bending down.

They are not real high on my Christmas list.

They started out fantastic, then they got carried away to the point of standing behind ridiculous nonsense. I think they must have run out of good causes. They got rights for women, races, other important causes, and now they just try to find silly causes to get involved in because they don't have anything else to do. It's a lot like PETA, started off as a great group, then dwindled down to silliness. I mean seriously, do you know anyone who takes PETA seriously anymore? They've gone from protecting pets to telling people we shouldn't have pets at all, and should let them all go free.

No, it is a sore on America's backside. I am referring especially to the incident where the ACLU DEFENDED free of charge the NAMBLA....need I say more?

When an organization will defend those that rape innocent young boys, they need to GO!

They/we (I am a long-standing member) are generally very good for the US and the world. I don't always agree with their positions on issues, but I almost always do. They have helped to protect and define the constitution, and the rights of minorities in particular, in countless ways. Many of their lawsuits have helped to preserve or establish fundamental civil rights such as speech, voting, religion, assembly, etc. It's astonishing how quickly US citizens forget what the country is all about when they are faced with something unpopular or something that scares them.

All minorities in the country owe a great deal to the ACLU.

I personally don't agree with some of the causes they undertake. But the sheer fact that they are able to fight for rights and protections for such a large array of people makes them not only good, but necessary for American culture.
