Scholarships come in many different forms. There are scholarships for academics which are refered to as merrit scholarships. For athletes, there are the athletic scholarships. In addition, there are scholarships for living in a particular place, being a member of a club, a hobby, or even wearing duct tape to the high school prom. The following are free sources to locate a scholarship and apply for them.

First, the high school guidance office has a list of local scholarships that currently enrolled students can apply for consideration.

Second, the college's financial aid office and website has a list of private scholarships from outside organizations and companies. Sometimes a college major will list them, too.

Third, the public library has a scholarship book, and it lists some scholarships not even listed on the web.

Finally, join several free membership scholarship search websites. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information that you enter into a form on its website.

Good luck!
