My Girlfriend has just been diagnosed with UC. It's been 4 days since her colonoscopy and she is still in pain and feeling sick. We are planning to go back to the Doctors tomorrow, however I was hoping you may have some thoughts on what may help! Are their good foods to eat! Certain excursuses that will help?

Any suggestions would be great as she is in a lot of pain and discomfort and i want some kind of game plan to help her!

First off I praise you for being supportive!
VSL #3 it is the strongest probiotic that exsists recommended to me by multiple patients and doctors....and it has made as big of a difference as any drug...bigger than many!

Since this is the beginning for her things get a lot better.
http://www.remedyfind.com/HealthConditions/92/ treatments as well as alternatives rated by patients

She may also want to consider some IBS treatments. If you have UC...IBS is a symptom of UC...lessoning the spasms brings down gas which can bring down the pain.
Fats trigger symptoms....acidic foods trigger symptoms and pain.

lactiad allows me to have dairy...yogurt may help her tollerate other foods. Fiber...just like in IBS soluble fiber is helpful
olubale fiber is the foundation of the ibs diet. outmeal, pasta, rice ptoatoes, tapioca, bananans....(sometimes bananas are too acidic for me)
this does two impl things...it regualtes the gastorocolic reflex....regulates the muscle contractions of the gut and it normalizes them... also regualtes water content in the bowel................helps both diarrhea dn constipation.

Lessoning stress...relaxing muscles in your pelvis lesson pain. So with excercise stretch before and after....swimming would be good since it helps you strengthen without tightening things.

Support groups are full of information on tips. They can help you empower her
Also...have hope! http://www.ccfa.org/ recently they have found a gene of UC and Crohns so they hope to have a cure in about 5 years! http://www.ccfa.org/reuters/crohnsvariant

I myself responded best to antibiotics, probiotics, antispasmodics, diet, and asacol.

My husband developed UC 4 months after our wedding. Nothing the DR tried was working.

I found this ancient remedy in an herbal medicine book and it has literally saved his life!

Make Iced tea with Liptons, 7 tea bags to 2.5 gallons of DISTILLED water will make enough to drink 1 liter a day for a week. Keep refrigerated. NEVER add sugar.

You get used to the flavor, it's not too bad. You can use decaffeinated tea if you have trouble with caffeine.

Every time my husband "forgets" his tea for 3 days or more he gets sick again, just like the first time. I mean REALLY sick, with high fever, vomiting, and diarrhea that won't stop.

If he keeps regularly drinking the tea, 1 liter every day, he is fine, and even passed a colonoscopy at ten years with only "generalized mild inflammation". Otherwise he was fine!

He has had this for 17 years now. My brother in law, (my sister's hucband, no blood relation) died at age 32 from UC. He would never try the tea, so needless to say, I'm so grateful for the tea.

Lately we have been adding 2 Constant Comment tea bags to the mix, (also decaf), and he says he really likes the flavor.

Good Luck, we'll all be praying for her, and for you.

Ulcerative colitis is no fun and I feel for your girl. My very good friend had it and was in pain for many years. She had to avoid certain types of food that would possibly upset her condition. She had to have a very bland diet for several months nothing too spicy and no salad of any kind. She had to take several courses of antibiotics over the years for the infection part. Her best bet is to follow her doctors orders and try to get up and moving a little bit so she does not get so stiff. She def. needs to stay away from caffeine, aspirin, and things like ibuprofen that can cause upset to her colon and bowel. I wish the best for her and hope that everything works out.
